All I've read of Dennett is Darwin's Dangerous Idea.

I like it very much, and liked him and will probably read more of him.

But I did find it a bit of a brain-breaker at times.

Dawkins is more accessible (though can also be a bit of a brain-breaker).

Interesting question, thought. I suppose it also has to do with personality. Dennett doesn't seem the type to put himself out there the way Dawkins does.

Dawkins if more vitriolic, which makes for fun reading.

I FAR prefer Dennett.

I was very disappointed when he couldn't make it to the American Philosophical Association conference in Chicago shortly after the publication of "Consciousness Explained". At the time, that was the best book I'd ever read.

By the way, Dennett HAS published on evolution, in his "Darwin's Dangerous Idea", a book that really helped me steer clear of various misconceptions about evolution. And of course much of "Breaking the Spell" is about the evolution of religions. I haven't read much Dawkins, but I find Dennett entertaining and personable. I also use a DVD of his when I teach cognitive psychology.

I'd never heard of Daniel Dennett till recently.
Richard Dawkins has been in the forefront for eons and he has a nice cultured English accent which is easier on the ears than most USian accents.

I found a Daniel Dennett YouTube - it's amusing and thought-provoking.

Dennett looks like Charles Darwin. It's funny.

He writes better, and his ideas are more famous and revolutionary- selfish gene is considered the 8th best science book ever written in a discover magazine poll right behind Einstein. But I love Dennett too.

I've never heard of Dennett... and I don't really like Dawkins... soo... that should clear things up for you. (aka Dawkins makes headlines and gets people talking - Dennett is new or in the shadows)

Dennett is relatively new to publishing about evolution and atheism compared to Dawkins.

He's no less respected.

Hmm. I have both "The God Delusion" and "Breaking the Spell" on my bookshelf in the queue of books to read in the near future. So I'll be able to intelligently answer this question in a few weeks.
But I did read "The End of Faith" by Sam Harris and "God Is Not Great" by Christopher Hitchens and I'm now a great fan of both.

Perhaps because I've never heard of Daniel Dennett . . .

I think it might be because evolution seems to be the standard behind which many atheists rally. Many theists reject evolution so many atheists accept it, understand it and rub it in the faces of theists. Richard Dawkins is a biologist and one of his main virtues is that he is an expert on evolutionary science.
