Dammit, Moon, how do you always make me think?? Lol.

My first response was "Party and gifts." But then, as I always do with your questions, I thought for a second.

Parties, I don't enjoy. At least, not birthday parties. As for gifts, don't get me wrong; they're nice. But I don't usually use them for very long. To be honest, I'd rather someone look me in the eye and say "I love you," than give me a gift. Maybe that's just because that doesn't happen much anymore.

Or rather, it doesn't happen at all.

So to me, a party and gifts aren't something I enjoy--and therefore, I don't actually consider it "celebration."

Furthermore, I'm alive 365 days a year. Why celebrate my existence on one day, when I should be thankful for ALL of the days I'm alive?

Therefore, as far as I'm concerned, every day is a celebration of my life.

I celebrate by living my life to the fullest. I'm rarely happy, but when I am, I appreciate those times. And in the past, I've come close to ending my life. Closer than I'll ever admit to anyone; not even myself. So, in further celebration, I keep myself alive. Which is really all I need--life, love, and a couple people that I'm close to.

When I was a small child, I used to think about my birthday with great anticipation... months in advance. I so admired the "big kids". Did you ever do that?

I started losing interest in birthdays in my early twenties and in my thirties I started forgetting my age.. often having to go back and recalculate whenever someone asked how old I was.

For the most part, my family and friends spoil me on my birthday. I really enjoy their company and well wishes. It's noice to feel special, Moon :)

Do you have a birthday coming up soon?
I think so!
I think very soon!
It's the 28th August in Australia right now ~ and I think that means your birthday is tomorrow (at least in Australia)!

My family has parties for the kids but only celebrate adult birthdays now when someone reaches the top of another hill. When my mother and grandparents were living, we used to all get together and take them out to eat at a nice restaurant.

We always had a good time together and looked forward to surprising each other when we could. None of us drink alcohol so we didn't end up with drunks out of control embarrassing everyone and ruining our time together.

Since I wouldn't be home when my birthday rolled around in Sept, another hill for me, my niece and her mother surprised me with a party when my husband and I were home this past summer and had all the family come in. I received lots of gag gifts and we had cake and ice cream and really enjoyed our time together.

I really don't have a ritual; I just spend time with family and friends. Since my birthday falls on a summer day (July 24th), I usually throw a barbecue and invite everyone. I always have a "gifts optional" attitude: Stuff's stuff, and most of it just collects dust within a month. I just like getting together with people.

I don't generally celebrate my birthdays, my mom usually makes us a nice dinner and bakes me one of her delicious Texas Sheet Cakes. We gorge and get all bloated then go home lol.

My birthday doesn't really interest me as a celebratory thing, it's just the day I was born.

It's not a spiritual event in my opinion. Just a birthday.

I celebrate birthdays and re-birthdays.

You need to have one of each, according to verse 5 below:

( Born of water is human childbirth, Born of the Spirit is the re-birth. )

Jesus said in John chapter three:

5Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. 6Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. 7You should not be surprised at my saying, 'You must be born again.' 8The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit."

Yes I enjoy it, especially if there is chocolate cake.

I celebrate my birthday by giving presents instead of receiving them. It helps me to stay out of self on this day that is supposed to be traditionally all about me. It is also a way for me to honor those whose love & stand by me, those I care for most. It has been a tradition of mine for 12 years now. Thanks

Spiritually, I thank God for helping me to make it through another year.

Otherwise it's just another day. My last party was when I was 12. That's 50 years ago.
