I believe you should visit the preschool section of book stores in your area that carry books in English. You would be the best judge of what level is most appropriate for him, and what his interests are.

You might want to try to out the Montessori language guide book (part of the Montessori book set) for teaching your son. It is an effective way of learning for a 5 year old. Visit http://www.montessori-book.com
