Usually 1 week, sometimes more, sometimes less. I had a parcel beat me home from Europe, once, and a cross-town letter take a week!

First class stamps are not valid to go to the USA and Canada. The postage costs are more expensive, and the surface mail envelope/package needs to show the actual amount of postage due and paid. I don't know what happens across the pond if the postage is inadequate, but here we would have to pay a hefty supplement to be given the letter. If you have anything else to go, you should take the letter to the Post Office to be weighed, so that the correct postage can be paid.

First of all, it would have to be attached to an envelope. And it depends where it's being mailed from.
