PS3 games are region free, so any PS3 games from anywhere in the world can be played on any PS3 from anywhere in the world.

The same can't be said for PS2 games. They're still region locked, so you can't play Japanese PS2 games on an American PS3.

PS3 games are region free, PS2 games and movies aren't.
But I heard this - some of the PS3 games will run perfect in single player mode, but in multiplayer mode certain games will connect to their regions gaming server. For example, japanese game will run perfect in States on US console, but in multiplayer it'll connect to japanese server. That means awful connection speed. However, I didn't experience this myself, but I'd red something about that on one of the gaming resources.

I know the PS3 can play PS3 games from any country. But, I'm not sure if it can play other older Playstation console games from other countries.
