everybody has their own understanding of it .
sexxy-I dont want to sound judging,as Im not ,but its a bit contradicting what you are saying.
where is the proof, then why does he caus....
so if you say why does he caus hurt does that mean when you are happy you feel he is giving you joy??
I also find it very hard to understand why he lets so much sorrow happen.

Well in the context in which it's written by John in 1 John, i believe he's saying we must love one-another - because God sent His Son as a sacrifice - to take our place for the sin that came into the world - that we might have life through Him -- this is love....
So for this reason we love God.

I also believe God made us in His image - so we have an inbuilt love that He established in us from the beginning - that we are able to get in touch with in a much deeper way when we become born again.

My take on that Is, we were strruggling along and getting In a "Right Muddle"?. As we are doing In the twenty first century, and Its absolutely "FRIGHTENING", the way Its going. A nyway God forseen this and sent his son down to as It were "Get us out the Mess'.

I still fully?, or ever will understand why?, as I am only human. He must have forseen everything!! before Then and Now".
I wish I could get a grip of My Faith, (really, thats what I need. I sometimes Despair Big time!!.

When we are born again, it could only happen because of what Jesus did for us on the cross. When we believe that He died for us, that Jesus was Gods son and we say sorry to God for our past sins then God gives us the faith to believe in Him. We simply recieve from Him everything we need. We cannot earn or do anything to deserve God's grace. Jesus died for us on the cross and took all the punishment that we deserve because of His infinate love for us. We are His creation. If He didn't reveal Himself in this way we simply couldn't love Him, as we would see Him as a tyrant, a God looking to punish people for every slip-up they made. Until we understand the absolutely wonderful thing Jesus has done for us, we can never love Him in the way He designed us to love Him.

It is the summary of the doctrine of predestination which can be found in Scripture. We do not chose to believe (or not ) in God, he opens our eyes to the truth which we believe.
Scriptural references are: Ephesians 1:4,5;2:8-10; Romans 8:28-30;[We know that all things work for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose. For those he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, so that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those he predestined he also called; and those he called he also justified; and those he justified he also glorified].

Total insecurity, learn to love yourself before you try to love others, and you may open your mind.

My neighbour is very cute, and I like to follow Mathew 22:29 , but I fall short of Exodus 20:17... should I follow one or the other, or just my gut instinct...

1 John 1:10 God's love for us goes back to the foundations of the earth before we ever knew Him... Therefore He first loved us... He loved us enough to create us.

My understanding is that God made us so that He would have someone to love Him.

But don't get me wrong. He does love us enough to have His only son tortured and murdered on a cross.

Simply stated, we have the capacity to Love, because it is part of God's very nature, and we were created in His own image. Even though that image in us has been marred by sin, the capacity to love is still there.

"We love because He first loved us."
