Why would anybody make a choice that would put them through so much misery? They have to "come out," which pisses their parents off and causes them to lose friends, then they have to adjust to being gay in a straight world, and THEN, they put themselves in physical danger from ignorant crapheads who might physically beat them for being gay.

I have a foot fetish, and let me tell you, it's not a choice. I look at that in myself and can assume from it that homosexuality is not a choice.

Some people who don't understand it say it's a choice because they fear things they don't understand. Others say it's a choice because of some arcane idea expressed in the Bible, and they can accept some things on blind faith, but they can't accept other things on blind faith for some reason.

I don't think it is in some cases, but I absolutely hate the term bi-curious and bi-sexual, especially when I hear 15 and 16 year old children using them, because those terms mean certain individuals do have a choice, that is why I believe in most cases it is a choice. I do not feel anyone should be influencing kids to go one way or the other, or to tell children it is o.k to be sexually explorative. Certainly I've heard it said many times that no one would choose to be gay, but it certainly appears to be that way, and it also appears that the homosexual and lesbian community is attempting to fight for the right to lure children into thinking it is o.k to be sexually immoral, even trying to force laws that force the teaching of it in our public schools. Sorry if you don't like my answer, but you asked for it. Honestly, I don't care what your preferences are, I just don't want my kids hearing about it or being influenced by it. Keep it to yourself. ;-(

Choice is barely a factor in homosexuality, but it is still a choice. Nature (genetics) and nurture (environment) are still the greatest factors in determining sexuality (I beleive both equally), but there is a matter of choice in the expression of those combined factors. I'm not saying it is right or wrong, just a choice of expression.

It is against the Bible and against nature.

If you don't like the religious viewpoint,
here is a secular one: - -
Even evolutionists, if they are true to their beliefs, cannot believe that homosexuality is natural, because it is the road to extinction. There is no possible evolutionary (survival or reproductive) advantage in the practice of homosexuality, if the law of the jungle prevailed, homosexuality would not even be an option.
In the survival of the fittest, homosexuals would be wiped out.

Gays have actually rather confused that aspect of the issue within a lot of rhetoric so describing it ( personal choice,my chosen lifestyle, sexual preference,etc.). In fact,it appears to be a matter of the androgen/estrogen balance during gestation. There is no choice involved; it is purely biomedical; I see no moral element, pro or con. The only open question is whether it is a normal part of human diversity or a physical pathology for which we should continue to search for an effective remedy. I think we should, not because it bothers me,but because people really should have a choice. If they prefer to remain gay, that is their choice,if they would prefer to be straight, the option should be made available, whenever that becomes possible.

two points.

Does anyone think they could just decide to change who they're sexually attracted to? Of course not so why would you think other people could.

Lets say for argument it is a choice. What does it matter? It doesn't change anything about any other argument in favor of equal rights. Every member of every religion unquestionably chose to join that religion so perhaps there shouldn't be any protection for you either.

So a gun is held on homosexuals to make them act it out?
There are reasons why people feel the way they do - but it is a choice make no mistake.
Let's call a sin a sin also.

Shame plays the fact. Its exposure from the teachings of shame and something you cant have is a result of concededness from censorship.

Because all Christians and Fundies are secretly gay so they thing everyone is. Sometimes they *choose* to explore this, but they get caught. (Larry Craig, Ted Haggard, Tom Foley)

Anyone that says it is a choice has thought about it and was turned on. Bottom line.

Some people can choose to experiment with homosexuality and end up liking it. Or they may not like it and end their experimentation. I think those experimenters are called bi curious..
