Rational thought, humanism and the scientific method.
Everything else follows from these three.
Without the first madness reigns.
Without the second man is raped by random forces of his own making and life is no better than hell.
Without the third progress for the better is severely limited and the future is closed.
But if you have all three, you can live in a good world and dream of an even better one.
And before somebody says "But these are three!", I beg to differ. They go hand in hand and one can not have any one without the other two.
And before someone else says "But these are really discoveries!", I beg to differ, too. Nature needs and has neither, so they can not be discovered. They have to be invented, by man, for man.
