I have seen this in the decorating magazines - using fabric on the walls instead of wall paper. Fabric is applied with liquid starch and is supposed to be very easy to remove when you are tired of it, and then you can wash the fabric and use it for something else. Has anyone done this? How difficult was it?

Fabric is applied with liquid starch, not PASTE. I am not asking about fabric coated wallpaper, but about fabric itself.

Oh Yes,yes yes! I have, and will never again use wallpaper! This was the easiest thing to do. I still can't believe how easy it was. If you get it on the wall, and it's not fitting right, you can just take it off and do it again, and again until your happy. Just put some liquid starch in a spray bottle, spray the wall, and slide the material on to it. Some times I had to spray both the wall and the material, but that was no problem. I did a full 11x12 room, and that was so easy,I continued into the kitchen. That was so easy,I went into my bathroom. Yes it's very easy to take off, then wash and re hang. It stays on the wall ,even with the steam from the shower. It will stay until you take it off. I will never use wall paper again! Plus you have a much better selection with materials. Byee Oh, and yes the starch soaks through But the more it does, the more sliding action. It dries compleatley clear! You can't even tell, and the only tools you need are sissors and the spray bottle! Byee again

I have seen the decorating shows where they not only used fabric, but feathers and paper bags! The thing is-- none of these items meet the fire safety codes and should never be used on a wall. Many fabrics are highly flammable, since the thread is often petroleum based. Use a commercially available wall paper instead and keep your family safe. The decorators don't seem to care about endangering the families they are "decorating" for.

You can buy wallpaper that is fabric coated. It installs and removes just like any other wall paper.
Using ordinary cloth can be problematic. It will absorb paste. It is impossible to keep paste from seeping through the fabric. If the glue dries, it is almost impossible to remove from the outer surface.
Talk to a professional paper hanger. See what he recommends.
