Hi, I'm looking to join the TA, but I was wondering what the chances are of being shipped off to Iraq the second I finish training? Don't get me wrong I'm not joining for the wrong reasons and I realise there are chances of war, serving in Iraq etc etc and I am prepared to do so. If anyone knows could you let me know! Also if anyone is in the TA, what are your thoughts on it? Thanks, its really appreciated! x

Your chances of going to Iraq after initial training are very slim.

Believe it or not, after training, you still will not know, 80% of what you need to know to be a soldier.

You will be assigned to a unit and complete your training there.

Then when that unit is deployed, you will go with that unit.

No one does, individual deployments anymore, they deploy as units.

I don't see any Territorials in the order of battle among British troops in Iraq. They all appear to be regiments of the regular British Army. There might be some involved in Afghanistan.

Signing up for the military is putting you name on the top of the draft list above civilian Americans.

It probably wouldn't be too long after.
