My answer is very long, I'm sorry but I think it will be very helpful.
It won't get rid of your old files and to get rid of spyware...
Your Options are:
1. Click your start bar, go to contol panel, then open internet options, if you have xp click on "delete..." under Browsing History and then click delete cookies and delete temporary internet files, if you have a previous version click delete cookies and delete temporary internet files.
If this doesn't work try:
2. Get AdAware by Lavasoft (you can get a free version or buy a better version) or Spybot Search and Destroy, which is free.
P.S. You could also use Internet options and use both softwares, which would get you the most protection.
P.P.S. Most security softwares (McAffee, Norton) come with spyware protection too

Run your anti-spyware in Safe Mode.If you dont have an excellent anti-spyware or your current anti-spyware can't prevent spyware from Invading you computer,download a better one.

You can download and scan your computer for free.
As the computer is booting press your "F8 Key" repeatly which should bring up the "Windows Advanced Options Menu" . Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key.
After into safe mode,run an anti-spyware to remove the spyware and adware on you computer.
Make sure you have 1 or 2 antispyware on your computer and 1 antivirus and also 1 firewall.

One simple way is while you are on the internet go to the very top where it says tools, And then go to internet options. And click clear cookies. It gets rid of all the tracking cookies. I also use ad-aware. It works well.

spybot and adaware are the best FREE solutions available, and won't delete all your files. I recommend running both, as one might cover stuff the other missed.
