I feel so depressed. for the longest time I have just felt like I am wasting my life. I am 18, I just got out of High School, and I am not doing anything. last week I was so depressed that I just started walking and I walked from like 8 to almost 12 in the morning. At the end of my walk I felt better but this same feeling keeps comming back. There is nothing for me to be happy about. my friends dont even make me happy anymore. should I talk to my doctor about this...?

Entertain yourself with something challenging and interesting. Don't stay alone go outside experience life a little bit out of the ordinary, get to meet new people if the current ones do not satisfy you at the moment, sign up for something of your interest, take up acting classes, but please do not get anymore in the hole of depression as you are already, because it is going to be harder for you to pull yourself out.

Don't give up!

Take care, sweetie, you can always e-mail me if you need to.

For one thing, don't blame yourself or judge yourself too hard. Why do you feel like you are wasting your life?? You're only 18! What are expecting?! So the first thing you need to do is change your attitude. You shouldn't feel as if you have to prove yourself to anyone.

It's normal to feel down once in a while, but if it really starts to affect your life, it probably would be a good idea to talk to someone. Your friends might not always understand. I went through a pretty bad depression when I was your age and in my early 20s, (I just turned 30) and my friends didn't really understand because they had never been through it before. Do you get along with your parents? Maybe you should tell them what's going on.

I think a hobby is a good idea. What helped me was finding something that made me happy every day, even if it was just something small. Walking will definitely help to clear your mind too. If you get stuck in the same rut, the same routine every day, that will definitely make you depressed.

If you aren't ready to go college, maybe you can still take a couple of classes at a community college. I don't know what your future plans are.

Hang in there. The important thing to remember is that it won't always be like this. Things WILL get better. Also, remember it's your life, just enjoy it. You don't have to prove yourself to anyone.

The symptoms below are taken from I book I own, as I've had clinical depression myself before. I know that when I felt that low, I was just glad to be able to give a 'label'. That at least meant I could look for a way of getting better. Anyway, here's the list:-

Fatigue and sleep disorder
Lack of motivation
Poor concentration
Forgetfulness
Appetite disorder and weight fluctuation
Feelings of inadequacy
Loss of vitality
Minor ailments
Irrational fear
Confusion
Intolerance
Self-hatred
Self harm
Suicidal thoughts

You only need identify with four or five of the above to classify as clinically depressed. It's important that you should go and see your GP though, so she/he can give you a professional diagnosis and hopefully, something to help you get better again.

ok do u know what makes u feel depressed? start with that then move on...try not to do those things anymore. Go online and find activites in your area. Do have a gym membership those are always fun as they have different classes you can take and meet ppl and this will keep you busy and in great shape and you will get to mingle with others. Maybe your friends do maybe your friends dont make you happy anymore b/c you might not have nothing in common with them. If you are starting to have different thoughts of suicide and other horrible thoughts maybe you should seek advice/help. There is so many resources out there to help you and try to help you obtain the goal/feeling you would like to have in life. The best of luck to you hun!!!

Bored.
Your probably bored. When someone is bored they feel low and tired. You probably felt better after you walk because you were doing something. Get outside and do something.
