First you better find out if it is legal for you to carry a concealed weapon, you may have to get a permit. Some states do not allow carrying of a concealed weapon at all.
Second go to a gun dealer and talk to them. A 22 cal might be a bit small for a self defense gun.

I agree that a .22 is too small for self-defense. I have a Glock 36 as a carry weapon. If you like Glocks, this is a good one for concealed carry. If not, there are plenty of other weapons to choose from including some good revolvers.

Also, check the concealed carry regulations for your area and make sure you comply with them.

First and foremost you need to have a concealed weapons permit to carry a concealed handgun in most states, and you must be a minimum of 21 years of age to obtain one. Regardless of where you live.Possession of a concealed weapon without a permit is a Felony class crime..

Second: A .22 is a POOR choice at best for a personal defense weapon as it lacks the bullet mass and knockdown power that would be needed for confrontation purposes. You would need a minimum of a 38 Special or larger in order to be an effective weapon for self-defense.

After you get your concealed carry license, look at the new Kel-Tec P9, a 7 shot 9mm which is very small. If cost isn't an issue, look at the Rohrbaugh as it is slightly smaller and lighter, but it hurts to target practice with as it is so small. Glock makes several good concealables, as does Kahr.

first, make sure you have the legal right to carry concealed, get the permit of required. Then reconsider your "pea shooter" theory. a .22 is marginal for self defense, yes it can kill (emphasis on "can") but nine out of ten shootings,it takes multiple hits from a .22 to stop a man. Do you want him to continue assaulting or shooting at you while you empty your pea shooter at him, or do you want to stop the fight with one or maybe two hits from a real gun?
As for a .25auto? I always said that if someone ever shot me with a .25 and I found out about it, I'd be pissed!!
It takes 80 ft pounds of energy transfer to kill a human. A .25 has about 68-70 ft pounds of energy. Yes a head shot at close range will kill quickly, but do you have the skills when under attack at night, under duress to guarantee perfect headshot? of course not. That is why a good instructor will teach you to fire for center of mass with a caliber that has sufficient energy and diameter to do the job, remember, you are not trying to kill the assailant, just stop the attack (that's legal talk to protect yourself in court).
I carry a para ordinance "nite hawg" which is the smallest .45acp with high capacity magazine on the market. I have absolute faith in this pistol and caliber from 1st hand experience. Is this the only option? no. But it is what I prefer. My wife carries a springfield compact in .45acp most of the time, and when unable to carry that, she carries a smaller pistol chambered in 9mm makerov (9x18), which falls in between a .380 (9x17) and a 9mm (9x19). she carries it with Hydro shock hollow points. This pistol is very compact, reasonably priced at around $150.00-$200.00 for the bulgarian model (which I think is the best) it is extremely accurate, rugged and was the side arm of the military and police for more third world nations than I can count. I would never advise anyone to carry less than a .380 loaded with quality hollowpoints at a minimum, and encourage people to carry the larger calibers if at all possible.
I have been shot twice with a .22 lr and once with a .38 special from a snub nosed revolver. I was hit once in the left thigh with the .22 (which felt like getting hit with a rock) and once in the shin which hurt like the blazes, but didn't put me down. The .38 (round nosed lead bullet) hit me in the right shoulder, breaking my collar bone and made me take a step back, but did not put me down. If I had been hit in either spot with a .45acp, a .357 mag, a .41 mag, a .44 mag, I would have been down. If hit with a .40S&W in the shoulder, I would have gone down, in the thigh? I probably would have gone down with one hit, two for sure..

the lightest & most concealable effective hand gun you can get is the kel-tec p 32 or 38t. either one is small & light enough to carry in a shirt pocket or wallet holster & since they are a locked breach gun you can use high velocity cor bon ammo in them.
if your average height & weight its very difficult to conceal anything that weighs more than 16 oz or is more than an inch thick in an easily accessable place all day every day while wearing normal street clothing.
forget about ankle or crotch holsters there just not comfortable or practical on an every day basis & it takes both hands to get either one into operation, if it wont fit in your pocket without showing dont buy it unless you wear a suit all the time.

If you can legally conceal carry in your State consider the Beretta Model 3032 Tomcat in .32 acp. It is the smallest caliber that is marginally acceptable for defensive purposes. With the best defensive loads it meets or exceeds standard .380 acp ball and 158 grain lead .38 Special ammo performance. Anything smaller can only be considered a last resort weapon of opportunity.

Best.

You have a Glock 18?
Since you already know the Glock system, buy a 19 (compact version of the 17, or I guess you could say compact semi-auto version of the 18) or a 26 (subcompact of the same).
Personally, I prefer a Browning Hi-Power.

Taurus "Millennium Pro", 9mm, 40cal, 45cal. They are the "compact" version of the Taurus 24/7. But as the other guy said, you might want to check the state laws and make sure you can even carry legally!!!

Get a permit, some self-defense courses and a S&W 642.
