I use to be very faithful in prayer, and it seemed like I was getting closer to God. Then, I started feeling like I being honest or sincere enough in prayer and it was a major barrier for me. Now, it has been a week, and I still haven't said any organized type of prayer.

As a new Christian, I am very pleased that you are seeking God through a deeper prayer life.

The most important thing to remember, is to pray from your heart! Just open up and pour out to Him! You do not need to be "organized" ....He desires you to come to HIM with your heart! It is the same as any relationship...communication, is a must!

My heart understands where you are coming from. I am going to be praying that you will be able to ascertain, that God loves just hearing from you, in prayer. That He will fill you with His peace as you pour forth, your heart to Him!

God bless you,
Gail

Chris, it's just my opinion but I believe where you're making your mistake is in "organized prayer". Prayer need not be organized or formal or practiced. I approach God with my prayers in a conversational way. I pray each morning and each night. but I also pray all throughout the day. The Bible tells us to be in constant prayer. While that doesn't mean that you should be on your knees 24/7, it does mean that you should keep God in the forefront of your thoughts and actions all day. I've even prayed for a parking spot close to the front of a store when I was just absolutely wiped out tired. And guess what. God delivered. God is my deliverer, my Savior but He is also my friend. And I talk to him like that. A friend. Just tell Him what's on your mind Chris. Tell your friend God what you want Him to know. He already does, He just wants to hear it from you. May he give you peace and understanding my friend. Prayer Warrior Sarge.

I think that you are just going through a phase. I would just try praying during the day to get a breakthrough. You will be okay. God knows that you desire to communicate with Him. We all go through times like this. I like to pray all day long, I have a difficult time with organized prayer! God Bless You

Think of it like this, and it may simplify things for you.
Would you like your best friend to organize a conversation before speaking with you? Would you consider that a sign of fear by your best friend, that they are uncomfortable to speak with you naturally, as a best friend should be able to? I would, to both questions.
Jesus Christ is who you should be talking with, really. No one can come to the Father, but through the Son. Jesus was man, and spirit. He knows you since He was like you, and is able to relate with you since he was of the flesh. God never wanted people to bow to Him, all He ever wanted was a friend, and our love.
Jesus doesn't want you to be afraid to speak with Him, He wants your comfort, and happiness.
I would not like my best friend to be reading off a scripted manual when talking with me, because that isn't REAL, it's planned out, and false. A Poem is meant for appreciation, not a conversation in your personal feelings with the best friend you could ever have.

I am the Way--yes, and the Truth and the Life. No one can get to the Father except by means of me. John 14:6

I myself will be the Shepherd of my sheep, and cause them to lie down in peace, the Lord God says. I will seek my lost ones, those who strayed away, and bring them safely home again. I will put splints and bandages upon their broken limbs and heal the sick. And I will destroy the powerful, fat shepherds; I will feed them, yes--feed them punishment! Ezekiel 34:15

For I am the Lord, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear: I will help you. Isaiah 41:13

first of all organized isnt what God wants nor expects...He who knows all already knows YOU......What you have need of and whats going on in your life......So be honest..Speak to God just like he was Your Best Friend...cause He is....But He wants us to be honest and willing to be who you are......and tell Him what we are going through and how we feel and ASK / SEEK / KNOCK....and you will find...but also be willing to be patient......and be attintive to His answering....Not wanting things our own way to suit ourselfs.....and READ the WORD......that itself....draws you closer to God then anything else the want and desire to See Him as HE is...and not what we want !!! And know others are praying as well !!!!

Confess your faults one to another , and pray one for another , that ye may be healed , The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much . ....James 5:16

But thou when thou prayest , enter into thy closet and when thou has shut thy door , pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
But when you pray, use not vain repetitions as the heathen do:for they think they maybe heard for thier much speaking.
Be not ye therefore like unto them:for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of , before you ask Him.......
Matthew 6:v6-8

prayer is useless except as a form of meditation. Don't worry about it.
Think about it, almost any prayer you can POSSIBLY make is asaking god to change his plan. Do you really think you can plan the world better than he can?
