I am ex-mormon, but feel I can intelligently answer this question , (unlike some of those before me). The feeling I got while praying was a strong powerful feeling. The only problem is a moving moment in a Rated-R would give me the same feeling so I don't think you could call that the spirit. I think it is more of an internal thing. If what you are doing or seeing has personal value to you, or is very important to you, you will get that feeling.

Depends on what I am praying about...like if it is just my normal night-time prayer, or a prayer at meal-time, or when I am being given a Priesthood blessing....there are many different kinds of prayers.
I can share this experience: Two weeks ago my grandmother passed away. It was more of a blessing than anything because she was sick, miserable and my grandpa had already passed away the year before. She missed him and longed to be with him. My dad gave the opening prayer at her funeral service. I have never heard a more beautiful prayer and been so touched. I sadly cannot remember everything he said, but as he spoke, I knew the spirit had touched his heart and helped him say what needed to be said. I had such a feeling comfort and love, I knew my grandma was with my grandpa and that her "mission" of this life was completed. It was so beautiful.
Feeling the spirit is different for everyone and different at different times. There have been times I have been praying for something and have been balling my eyes out, or times that I have felt such peace while praying that I could almost just fall asleep! I know that sounds weird, but it is hard to explain.
I think prayer helps to build your testimony and that it doesn't matter how long you have been a member, a new convert could have just as strong a spiritual experience as anyone else...
Prayer is the best way to become close to the Lord. It is the time when we are the most humble I think, and that is what it takes to accept the gospel - to submit to the spirit and the will of the Lord.

for the everday, ususal prayers- i usually feel the same- just going through the motions. But when I am sincere, and it's heart felt. I can feel the strength of the spirit. I can feel the spirit guide me in what exactly to pray for (it's usually changing my more selfish request in to something a little less selfish:) I feel very good about it, and usually a sense of peace and understanding and calmness will come over me. I don't think it has anything to do with how long you have believed, but more to do with the strength of your personal testimony. Time's got nothing to with it- someone who has been just baptized can be at the same point as someone who has been a member their whole life. It just depends on where you are in your spiritual life, and the sincerity behind it.

I just feel an instant connection in prayer. When I have a problem or question, I don't always get the answer, but I know an answer will come. This feeling is stronger when I read, ponder and pray.

I suppose it's just as anyone else who prays to God sincerly. It's as powerful as what I bring to it (as someone else said). I've had some very intense prayers where I poured out everything to Him, and felt utterly spent at the end. Other times I've poured out my whole soul to Him and left feeling like I had just plopped something down and shrugged my shoulders as if to say - it's Yours now. Sometimes it's like a phone call where you have the option of either remaining on the line or leaving a message. Sometimes I leave a message, other times I remain on the line. The feelings I get while leaving a message are the same type of feelings you get when you make out a grocery list and read it off to someone. The times I remain connected, my feelings vary from refreshment, to a sense of urgancy that I need to do something (very often it deals with the repentance process), to answers to questions and guidance in a particular direction.
My feelings of being spiritually strong wax and wane just as everyone else's does. I've been able to recognize these times with more accuracy and earlier as I've put more effort into noticing and evaluating where I am spiritually. One thing about everyone's place in the gospel, no one ever stays in one place - you're either moving forward or backward, and it's been my experience that we all move forward at times and backward at times, but no one ever stays the same.

Are you talking about the burning int he bossom??? As an ex-mormon, I soon came to realize this feeling was not real, mormons are not Polyandry and I would use the burning to ask God about mr. Right, but every guy I asked God about I got the burning, so that led me to believe that the feeling was just an imagined feeling. As for tesimony meetings, I use to cry, but I cry over everything. I could have been mimicing what everyone was doing because I also repeated what everyone else said as well.

I don't necessarily get the same feeling when I pray. It depends on what I bring to it.
I consider prayer to be a call home to my father in heaven. Sometimes I'm just checking in, sometimes I'm giving a report - and sometimes, I'm receiving a lecture [lol]. I've learned to share my joys as well as my sorrows. My joy seems deeper when I share it. My sorrow, lightened. I do know that I enjoy the closeness I feel to my Father in Heaven and my Savior as I pray often. It seems that the more I remember deity, the easier it is for me to feel encircled in their love -- especially at times when I'm feeling low. I firmly believe that like all relationships, the more I work on it, the greater it grows. If I neglect it, it weakens.

well, the feeling would be different for everyone. Depending what you are praying for, you might get a good feeling or a bad feeling...like if i'm asking "Should i (do something bad- i don't know...pick something)?" you will most likely get this bad feeling in your gut...for me, it's an uneasy feeling. like i feel sick...when i pray for something and the answer is yes, i feel great inside...sometimes my heart starts beating fast...sometimes i feel warm and loved....and the stronger it gets or lesser or the same wouldn't matter how long you believe...i believe it would matter with how much sincerity you put into the prayer and how important the prayer is for you....
