yes, you might say that a quarter? whats the big deal? but it is really inconvenient for everyone. and plus, after you buy 4 drinks, you already wasted another dollar. it is really annoying to have to carry around a dollar and quarter. should we boycott them (so prices drop) or just keep buying them although they are very annoying. also, some drinks are $1.50 in the school now!!

25 cents is not that big of a deal.
Plus i'm sure your school had a reason for raising the prices, they aren't out to get you.
Most likely, either the place where they get the sodas from got more expensive, so they had to raise prices also; or they decided to raise prices and use they extra money for things the school needs. Either way it's not a big deal... if you really want to boycott something, boycott something that will help make the world a little bit better.

this site has a guide of what places to boycott and why

Yeah, right, good luck. The oil giants have raised the price of gasoline, which effects essentially EVERY other product, because gasoline is used to transport everything everywhere. Distribution costs have increased, therefore retailers / distributors must charge more in order to maintain a consistent profit.

But yeah, $1.25 a soda sucks. When I was in highschool, a 20 oz. soda from the school machines was only 50 cents, while it was more like $1.09 everywhere else.

Alternately, you could bring a water bottle and refill it at the drinking fountain. Not only is it healthier, but it's as cheap as free.

This is one of the first lessons in economics. It is basic supply and demand theory. The distributors feel that there is enought of a demand for soda, that students are willing to pay an extra $.25 for the soda without demand going down. If that extra $.25 is not worth the soda, then the students will stop buying it at they rate they currently are buying it and the distributor will loose money. Therefore, they may lower their prices again.

However, this could be the school system's doing. They may be increasing the price of unhealthy sugary sodas to keep students from buying them and choosing healtier choices like natural juice, low fat milk and water. Therefore economics and the students' demand will have nothing to do with it.

Boycotts to make prices drop generally do not work. You can pay the $1.25 or not drink anything. However, the bulk of the students will still buy their drinks. Even if you convince them to stop it for a day or a week or whatever, they will eventually start buying the drinks again.

No because it would be too much trouble because the school may not have any choice to raise the price and some people will still buy the drinks. This happened at our school too but we didn't boycott.

companies like coca-cola and pepsi arent going to care if a few people wont buy their drinks cause theyre an extra quarter. theyre a multi-million dollar company, a few less wont make an impact on them. if you dont want to pay the quarter, then bring something else to drink. keep in mind often the vending machines in your school, part of the money generally goes into school funding. not such a horrible thing is it?

How does this new price compare to the prices of the same product in other stores. A 20oz bottle of soda out of a vending machines for $1.25 is till better then the same 20oz bottle at a C-Store for $1.50(plus tax)

NO! Your dad obviously does not drive that big truck that brings it to your scholol. A gallon of diesel fuel to fill the tanks on a big truck is now $3.05 a gallon, AND it takes 300 gallons to fill those tanks. So the next time you think about striking-remember someones dad needs his job and you need all those items you buy for yourself to eat or shampoo with or use the bathroom!

You can try to make an issue
BUT the nerds like to show off just like the sillies at Starbucks.
WE are supposed to have a free, fair market but it does not work... there is NO competition in school for food or drinks.
and they (workers) get more than minimum wage.
BUT you can slave at the fast food.

Did you stop to think that the price they pay went up? Back in my day they sure as hell wouldn't allow a pop machine in or around the building.
