Why don't you get the dermatologist's opinion. If the dermatologist recommends it, then maybe she'll buy it for you. If not, ask for it as a Christmas/Channukah/Kwanza gift. Tell her how much it means to you to try it out, and if it doesn't work, you will cancel future orders.

When you go to the next appointment she sets up ask the dermatologist about what they think about proactive. There are many dermatologist that recommend this product. Also if you are old enough maybe you could get a part time job and pay the monthly cost yourself. I say get a job IF you are doing quite well in school. But just tell everything you said here to the doctor in a respectful way. I wish you the best!

Ask for it for a special occasion, like birthday or Christmas.
Then once you've used it for a month, you'll have the proof to keep using it, or she'll have the proof that you shouldn't use it.
I used it when I was a teenager and it did work quite well.
I've known several other people who have used it with good results, so I definately think it's worth a try.
Alternatively, you can go to a drug store, and they'll have a product with the "Same active ingredients as Proactiv" kind of like an off brand of Proactiv for half the price. That might be worth a try.

when i was in high school, i tried everything too that the dermatologist perscribed and it always made it worse. in the end i went on accutane but you can only be on that for 6 months. it helped, but not enough. then i used proactive. that worked excellent. cleared the rest up. now years later, i am having a few break outs again and after what the dermatologist gave me didn't work, i'm back to proactive. it really does work.

I buy benzoyl peroxide at cvs over the counter in the the aisle where all the rest of the stuff for bad skin is. It is like $7 I think for a tube of it and it works great! I think you can buy it at walmart too! Its called Panoxyl. They have all different kinds of things like soaps and stuff, but I just use the lotion. The only reason I don't use Pro-active is because they want to take the $ right out of you account and just send the product every three months. I do have a good friend who swears by it though. He takes the vitamins that they sell and everything.

well first off, stop whining. your mom is sorta right...sorta not. proactive will waste your money because 1. you can get the same ingredients in stuff on the shelf and 2. it does dry your skin out. now, the only reason why it dries it out is because most people don't use the moisturizer. go to any target/walmart/cvs/whatever and get a three step acne line. clean and clear works really well and so does nutregena just make sure you get a cleanser, toner, and mosturizer and then you won't have to waste your money on proactive

I know numerous people who have tried Proactiv and it didn't work, but my dermatologist perscribed Differin, and it worked wonders! You should try it instead. No matter what, your face is going to dry out, because Benzoyl Peroxide dries out the skin.

Cut out the fried foods. Drink lots of water. Find some 100% cranberry juice and get to drinking. Sleep on your back. Apply palmer's cocco butter lightly to your face after showering to prevent your body from creating excess oil to compensate for skin dryness. Don't touch your hands to your face if you can help it. This helped me and I had tons of zits. It takes a few days to start working.
