Not sure of traffic laws in other countries, but from a common sense standpoint, no matter where you're at on this planet, if you hit someone from behind for whatever reason, you are at fault. No if's and's or but's.

It has been less than 24 hours. You should go and make an accident report. Cover your butt. If he goes and makes one, and weeks later decides his car is damaged, or he is injured, not only will your insurance pay out, but you may be charged with leaving the scene of an accident!

It might seem ok at the time to just let bygones be bygones, but the best thing to do after a bumper to bumper incident is to make a police report and have the person you hit tell the police that nothing is wrong with their car or their health. It goes a lot longer in court than word of mouth from a person that didn't file a police report.

Take photos of the front of your car - license plate and vehicle identification number (its on the plate on the dash or on a sticker on the side of the door). Then put those in a safe place and hold on to them. I'd keep them for at least 3 years.

Since you gave the guy your insurance information - he will call in a claim if he thinks he has damage. In the mean time - don't sweat it. If you get a call from your insurance company that means that he filed a claim and you will need to make sure that you cooperate with your company in the investigation of the incident. You may want to check with your agent and make sure that your account shows the correct phone numbers and address. You can also let your agent know what happened and see what they suggest.

Lots of folks have little fender benders where there is no damage and don't file claims. I had one when I was a teenager myself.

I don't exactly know your traffic laws up there but if there was no damage done then it's a no harm - no foul kinda thing. If there was absolutly NO damage done to either vehicle then nothing will come of it. If there were no witnesses then you can't deny doing it because someone will ask how did he get your insurance info. If you did even scratch the other vehicle then you will be held accountable for the damage no matter how minor. Go ahead and tell and show your insurance agent so they can get pics of the lack of damage to the front of your vehicle . Just remember to cover your a.s.s. to avoid a lawsuit from them claiming whiplash

Yikes, I know how you feel. I was in an accident once where I hit someone, but it wasn't my fault, I didn't get a ticket (cause the cop even said it wasn't my fault), and witnesses even told the lady I hit that it wasn't my fault. Yet, she sued my insurance company anyway and lied to the lawyers in order to win the case! So, you just never know how sneaky people can be.

Oh, yep, you can bet it's your fault. If the guy in front of you is stopped at a red light, and you rear end him, it's your fault.

Sure, there's stuff he can do! He can wake up in the morning and decide he's got a major back injury. So it's best to report it to your insurance company as a "notice only".

You will be getting a bill for "repairs" to his car. Why do people not take down the information on the other driver, especially when it is your fault? You should have called a policeman. You have cause to be nervous because you are about to get "hosed" and you won't be able to contest it. I hope you learn from your mistake.

I would inform the police of what happened. Take pictures of your car. I have a feeling he's going to try to get some work done on his car on your insurance.. Your insurance goes up because of claims against your policy not if you call the police or not.

Check your policy and his and have your agreement written down and signed for proof.

Here's a good website to browse that I use myself to compare what different policies are set for.

If you were not "playing wid my phone" the accident would not have happened.

Secondly, it is people like you that should prompt legislation against operating a motor vehicle and using a cell phone. Please stop this unsafe practice before you really hurt someone.
