What do you think happens when a person does this? Do you really think God makes them go to hell for this?

I am Wiccan, and I believe that when people die they enter the loving and sacred presence of the Gods -- no matter what their religion (or lack thereof) or their actions in life. The Gods truly love us unconditionally.

Therefore, from my point of view, your friend is in a place where all their pain and sorrow is washed away.

I'm very sorry for your loss, and wish you strength and comfort in this difficult time.

Really, no one knows or can "judge" their particular situation or "why" they took their own life...except the Lord.
I am a Mormon, my husband has had a cousin on each side of his family commit suicide. One cousin had struggled with schizophrenia and seeing what he called "demons" his whole life. He was always scared, never slept and had a rough life from what we saw of his life...and he took his own life when he was 30 years old. I do not believe the Lord will send him to "hell" for eternity...
His other cousin, we don't really know much other than the day he killed himself, he left a note that amongst other things said he had betrayed a loved one and that was his reason for doing what he did. I do not believe God will send him to hell either...
I think the people that take their own life have struggles that we know nothing about, sometimes I really think they aren't in their "right frame of mind" and so I feel like not that it is justified, but that the Lord knows their circumstance and will judge them accordingly.
This is a wonderful talk given by Elder Holland:

While suicide is still technically "killing", I do not think every circumstance is black and white... there are just many things we do not know for sure. I just have comfort knowing the Lord is just and all will receive their just rewards, whatever they may be.

Speaking as a Christian minister here. The Biblical answer is that your friend is in the hands of a righteous God. God has the final say as to what your friend's eternity is. We are all going to be judged at the end by God acording to His word, so it is His decision as to who goes where.

I had a friend commit suicide as well. I am sorry for your loss. I know how it feels. You did not ask this, but I would like to mention to you that it is not your fault, so do not give in to the feelings of guilt and the "shoulda, coulda, woulda" feelings. The important thing is for you to be there now for your friend's family and other friends so that you can support one another and help each other heal.

Once again, do not trouble yourself over your friend's eternity. He/she is in the hands of a righteous and loving God who will do the right thing. You can not worry about your friend's fate now, only your own. If you are concerned about heaven or hell then let's work on you.

In my opinion, he has left the pain and suffering he had in this life, and moved on to the next. This was one of the many reasons that Christianity was wrong for me. I have had two friends commit suicide, the most recent a little over 3 years ago.We had been friends for 10 years. He suffered from mental illness (nobody knows for sure, but most of us think it was paranoid schizophrenia), and it is a terrible disease. To make it worse, he murdered his father just before committing suicide. The ironic thing was his father was a psychologist. Sometimes the pain is just too much. I don't think that makes one a bad person. Selfish? Perhaps. But we are all selfish sometimes. He's in a better place now, starting anew. I know that doesn't ease your pain, but hopefully it helps a little. I know how you feel, dealing with a loved one's suicide is tragic and very difficult. Light and blessings!

It totally depends on the situation. As a Christian I believe Jesus died for my sins and by His sacrifice I am able to be with Him in heaven. I don't know if your friend believed that. I also fully believe it's possible to believe in Jesus, be heaven-bound and suffer from depression to the point you would not want to live any more.

The bible compares the Christian life to a walk of faith or a race. We are all at different points. Whether your friend committed suicide or died another way is not the issue in Christianity; only if he/she made the decision to give their life to Jesus as I mentioned earlier.

That being said, I am so sorry for your loss. I hope you find some comfort with the answers you receive.

I beleive that the Holy Spirt speaks to everyone about God through their lifetime. I know that to commit suicide there is something wrong mentally (I was there at one time also). All I can say is that God knows where their heart and relationship to Him was when they died. I do not believe that everyone that commits suicide goes to hell. If he knew Jesus, I am sure he is with Him now.

I think your friend is in a better place. This earth is hell - here we are separated from God. If we could see what comes next, we'd all commit suicide to get there.

I understand your feelings for not wanting to hear from Christians. But as a Bible-believing Christian, I must tell you that God's Word does NOT teach that all suicide victims go to Hell. Only God knows the heart. It is not though, an "automatic ticket" as many believe.

You will be in my prayers and I will light a candle for you and the family of your friend.

Brightest Blessings

I had a friend who committed suicide, too. I don't believe in heaven, hell or any kind of afterlife, so our friends are just dead, sorry. All we can do is remember the time we had with them when they were alive.

Well I'm LDS, which is Christian but since so many people don't think we are I'll give you our take on suicide.

By the way, my cousin committed suicide and it was extremely painful. But I saw how much he suffered here on earth and how miserable he was and I don't think a loving God would punish anyone for trying to escape that. I believe he is, "in a better place" as the euphimism goes.
