First of all--how does the priest know? Does he know something about your background that you don't? And most importantly--is there some kind of proof that you were Jewish?

If you were Jewish, there's definitely a way back. You are, essentially, a "captive child'. Our history includes many instances of children who were forcibly taken from their (Jewish) parents and raised as Christian without knowledge of their heritage and without power to have any say over their lives. Legal rulings have been made that those children were not responsible for their Christian upbringing, and could return to Judaism. Some rabbis might require a period of education and training, which is something I assume you'd want anyway. And you'd definitely need to prove that you were Jewish through matrilenear descent.

For that matter, you can become Jewish even if you have no Jewish ancestors. Conversion usually takes at least a year, and often more like two--but it's a possibility. I, myself, was born and raised in a Christian family, and was a Christian as an adult. I converted, and am now an Orthodox Jew.

The Catholic Church officially teaches:

When she delves into her own mystery, the Church, the People of God in the New Covenant, discovers her link with the Jewish People, "the first to hear the Word of God.

The Jewish faith, unlike other non-Christian religions, is already a response to God's revelation in the Old Covenant.

To the Jews "belong the sonship, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the worship, and the promises; to them belong the patriarchs, and of their race, according to the flesh, is the Christ"; "for the gifts and the call of God are irrevocable."

A long time ago you weren't alive...

A long time ago your ancestors COULD'VE been Jews...or pagans, or atheists...

A long time ago Christians were considered Jews...

The priest 'tolled' you? Are you a bell?
He 'tolled' you that you were a 'Jews'? Does that mean he thought you were actually more than one Jew? Please come back and re-post when you graduate from the 6th grade. Thanks.
