They know better, those that say such an idiotic thing are simply trying to upset the atheists so that the christian can claim how persecuted they are when the atheist tells them off for being a jerk.

Many of the religious types are so psychologically damaged that they can only view two options at a time.
I know it is hard to imagine but it is surprising how many view the world in simplistic terms of absolutes.
They have only the ability to think in terms of opposites. Black and white, no other colours and usually no concept of grey.
As a result they come out with false dichotomies like the idea that if you do not love god then you must hate god.
You see the same limited thinking applied to all real life problems by them.
It is certainly not all of the religious who do this, not by a very long way, and it is certainly not limited to just Christians
It really is a problem of a limited thinking style though.
If they could be taught to consider that there might be three options that would be one step towards getting them to understand that there are often many more options than just two.

I just assume atheist's don't believe in God. If I hear them railing away at God though it confuses me, and I wonder if there is an emotional reason for their "disbelief" instead of a logical one.
But in general, I assume it's a basic non-belief not hatred.

Well Why do atheists think just because a few Christians talk to them about God its so called pestering, several Atheists that I have seen will ask a question about God, and Christianity then will blow up when anwserd, this question is very hypocritical because u will find assumptions on both sides., I really don't care anymore, both sides have little bitches with thumbs up their *** I also find that many atheists that say Christians force their beliefs on them is bs. Because I have brought a bible to a place then a athiests started asking me questions so in my experince you dont wanna hear about it dont ask about it. and what I have seen that is more true then a christiasn forcing their beliefs.

I'm religious, but I don't think atheists hate God. How can one hate something he doesn't believe exists? Some hate God because of their misfortunes, and call themselves atheists.

Because the existence of people who don't believe what they say they believe casts doubt on the fundamentals of their delusions.
To the TruBeliever, beliefs are facts. To admit that there are actually people who don't believe would be to admit that there are alternative ideas out there, so they're forced to categorize people who don't buy in as god haters, etc.

All the athiests I've ever known didn't say they hated God. They said they hated Christians for trying to force their faith on them. (although I never really saw any evidence of that either) Athiests can't hate what they don't believe in.

Because their own identity is so tied up in their belief that it is easier for them to assume that, than to accept that other people may not think the same way they do
Anyway, it is only some of them, not all

I am not sure, but I've always wondered why other people assume things about other people assuming things. It seems that is a pretty common assumption.

Atheists don't believe in God. They can't hate Him.
However, I do assume that most of the people here at R&S posing as atheists aren't really atheists at all, but hardcore anti-Christians.
There's a difference.
