Several times in your Big Book, Jesus mentions that he will return within the lifetime of his contemporaries; people who were at that time listening to him speak.

Even by your own calendar, it's been a couple of thousand years, and he's not back yet. So, either there's a secret group of incredibly long lived Jews out there someplace still surviving, or perhaps it's all hogwash.

How do you TruBelievers work this simple fact in to your overall hypothesis? Or is it simply one of the many facts that you ignore in order to hang on to your delusions?

2Pe 3:7 But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
2Pe 3:8 But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
2Pe 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us,[2] not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
2Pe 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.[3]

Waiting on the fullness of the Gentiles:

Rom 11:25 For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion, that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in.

Remember, the Bible said that, after Jesus came back from the dead, he eventually went on to rise up to heaven.

Now that we have space-probes and radio telescopes and even satellite telescopes like Hubble, we've been able to examine the sky and have seen that, if heaven is up there somewhere, its got to be a long, long way away, because we can't spot it.

But Jesus apparently thought he was going to heaven and he was going upward. He apparently wasn't going very fast either. The Bible probably would have mentioned it if he had shot off like a rocket.

So, we have Jesus moving away from the Earth at a relatively slow pace, but heaven is apparently so far away that we can't see it with our most powerful telescopes.

It would seem likely that Jesus hasn't come back yet because he is still in transit towards heaven. At the rate he is moving, it seems likely that he won't be returning for around a couple billion more years, at least.

Actually, there is a little-known variety of Christian belief called "Preterism" that actually states that Jesus has already returned - way back in 70 AD.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Full_Preterism

There are some interesting passages in the writings of a Jewish, (non-christian), chronicler named Josephus who witnessed the Roman destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD. He apparently wrote that there were angels in the air and the sound of trumpets from the heavens. It seems that everything Jesus predicted could be seen as having been fulfilled way back in 70 AD. This, of course, leads one to wonder exactly why the world is still here...

Because the Bible says this generation shall not pass away but it's meaning about when Israel became a nation which was 1948. There are still people living that were born in 1048. Not to mention the fact, that the Bible says, God said no man knoweth the day, nor the hour! So it could have been back then but it wasn't. It could be today but it hasn't been so far, and it could be next week or next year. Might not happen for another 10 years no one knows. But it will happen when God is ready and tells Jesus to come gather His children.

Why is it that every time someone tries to shoot down God, they don't reference any scripture even though our "Big Book" mentions several times that Jesus will return in the lifetime of his followers? And if they do reference a verse, it's always out of context. My question is this, how can you disbelieve something you've never really read all the way through? Jesus lays it out in Matthew 24 and in verse 14, it reads, "And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come."

Why is it that there is this popular hypothesis that Christianity is just a bunch of made-up stories about things that never happened, when, in reality, the Bible was translated through time from scrolls, with well over 95% accuracy to the original script. That 5% consists of words that do not affect the whole of Scripture. The Bible has stood the test of time with doubters through the ages and yet it still stands as God's Word for those who believe. Good luck with your unbelief...although, luck won't do you much good.

"Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved." Matt. 24:12-13

EDIT:
How dumb am I? I almost didn't read that all right. I've been taking some of these references out of context the whole time. All these things happened BEFORE Jesus died. If you recall, Jesus came back from the dead and ascended into Heaven in all His splendor. The people Jesus was talking about got to see Jesus in His reign or with His kingdom or however it is worded. Jesus was telling His dense disciples that He would die and then come back and they would see Him in all His glory and majesty.

Man you know nothing about what you speak of. If you're going to hate people for their beliefs at least get it right, it just makes you look ignorant. Ignorant and hateful is not a very attractive personality. He's not back yet to give you personally a little time to read that "big book" and pull your head out. Can I hear an amen.

He only said that He would b w/ them until the end of the earth. That means He would always b w/ them. Watch the Trinity Broadcasting Network at around 5/5:30 PDT. It talks about prophecies in the Bible that are being fulfilled RIGHT NOW!! It's really exciting and disturbing at the same time.

Did He say in His contemporaries' time?

How do you measure God's time? A day is as a thousand years and a thousand years as a day with Him. We are so extremely limited in our understanding of His omnipotence and omniscience.

Anyway, He is allowing you sufficient time to learn the truth and stop pretending to know already.

It's funny how you give zero scripture quotes of these, "mentionings."

Lisa: You said, "There are still people living that were born in 1048..."

Yet provide no proof, or even evidence, or even a reason to believe this claim to be reasonable. Why did you not give reason? Are you unreasonable?

I'm a Christian, but I'm also reasonable. Therefore I'd like a reason to believe this.

Lol, I'm dumb, it was a typo.

Matthew 6:9-13
YOU must pray, then, this way:
“‘Our Father in the heavens, let your name be sanctified.
10 Let your kingdom come. Let your will take place, as in heaven, also upon earth.
11 Give us today our bread for this day;
12 and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And do not bring us into temptation, but deliver us from the wicked one.’

He's waiting on you! Not to condemn you but to draw you near to Him so when He comes He can take you with Him!

Whosoever will, let them come. I am a whosoever.

How selfish it would be of me to know I am saved and Jesus can come now to get me and not invite you.
Adopted said it from "The Big Book". My exact sediments
