I was just wondering if you have been treated for hypothyroid. Just recently I have been diagnosed and began a treatment, my question is how did you handle yours, what were you treated with, and how do you feel about your treatment. What were effects. For example I have only been on this pill for a little over a week and have began loosing weight, and have a very decreased appitite. Have you lost weight? How much and how much should I expect to loose? My doctor did tell me I would loose weight so I know its ok. THANKS!

I was diagnosed in November. I'm not cold all the time, my memory seems to be getting back to normal, I'm not at my family's throat all the time, and in the beginning I did lose about ten pounds. I've since put it back on. I'm taking Synthroid (levoxothyrene?) .88mg but started out at .50 I had my blood tested after 3 months and the Dr. bumped me up to the .88. Since then the tests have been good. I just went again today as a matter of fact for my physical on Monday. If the number is a little high I'm going to ask him about bumping it up again and see if I can't get this weight thing under control. Make sure your Dr. is checking you every 3 months, then 6 months, then up to a year because you're just getting used to the medication and most times it does have to be adjusted. And don't be afraid to tell him/her that you still don't feel quite like yourself if you still don't. Oh yeah, before I started the medication my hair was falling out in the shower. And also just after I started taking it until I got used to it it continued to fall out. That was scary. It's amazing what your hormones can do to you if allowed to get out of control! Good Health to you!

Hi. Yes I have been on Thyroid medication for Hypothyroid for about 8 years. I am being treated with levoxl. As far as how I feel about the treatment well I have noticed that I think more clearly with the medication. I still get cold very easily in cold weather. I did have an enlargement of the thyroid gland that was visible and that has gone away so that is good because it also made swallowing difficult. I have not lost weight, but I was not overweight. I was actually anorexic at the time I was diagnosed. I think the medication may have helped me to think more clearly and see that what I was doing to myself was not healthy. I actually began eating again and have gained a little weight. I feel healthier overall since I have been on the medicine, although I am still tired often. Good luck with your meds. Keep taking them as prescribed. I was told I could fall into a coma without them.

I wish I would lose weight with my treatment; you are lucky. Hypothyroidism has caused me to gain 30 lbs. When I first began treatment; I gained 5 pounds in one week. Don't worry about weight loss as long as you do not become underweight. Are you taking synthyroid or something else?
