The actual Nestle Aland Greek NT and the Septuagint for the OT.

For help on syntactical force: Albert Lukasewski's "Lexham Syntatic Greek New Testament".

If you know the actual language, it GREATLY helps you understand the CORRECT meanings of text and context and keeps you from all the heretical views like mormonism, JW's etc....

If you must go with a commentary: John Gill, Matthew Henry.

Topical: Calvin's Institutes

Teaching: John Piper (desiringgod.org)
R.C. Sproul, James White (aomin.org)
John MacArthur (gracetoyou.org)

And please do read the Apostolic Fathers,
where they taught that Scripture was the source of authority and not man (pope) that didn't come along for another 100 years after Nicene.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say the best source would probably be the Bible.

Fr K made a good point.
There have been many good, sincere, devoted people studying the Bible for nearly 2000 years. It would foolish not to avail ourselves of what they have learned.
I usually go to my priest when I have questions about the Bible. I am fortunate to have a very good priest. Some are more knowledgable than others.

The Holy Spirit, our Comforter and teacher; John 14:26.

I love the 119th Psalms, which shows God as our teacher:

12), "...teach me thy statutes".

18) "Open THOU mine eyes"

25) "...quicken thou me according to thy word"

26) "....teach me thy statutes"

27) "Make me to understand the way of thy precepts"

33) "Teach me, O LORD"

34) "Give me understanding"

35) "MAKE ME to go in the path"

So many more verses are included which ask for God to be the teacher & guide.
