Yes. They are inexpensive to buy and operate and the bulbs last a REALLY long time compared with incandenscent.

I am the Facilities Manager at a very large Catholic School. All of our classrooms have flourescent bulbs in the fixtures.

Most schools use 8' flourescent bulbs in classrooms and offices.
