My daughter has had a fever for 4 days now. the first day her fever was at 101 and gave her childrens tylenol.. So then the next morning her fever went up to 102.6 so then i took her to urgent care that morning. I have also gave her childrens tylenol that morning too and when we got there they took her temp and they said that her temperature was normal 98.6 (because of the med.) well the doctors said that she ok and that its just a viral infection. and just to keep giving her med. So later that afternoon i went back to work. I had to get off early again cuz her temperature went up 103.7 that evening so then i took her to the ER. when we got to the ER they took her temp her temp was still in the 103 range and they had gave her motrin. After waiting in the ER they had directed me to urgent care (the same place i went that morning) and they told me the same exact thing.. that my daugher was fine she has a normal temp of 98.6 and right there i knew that they were lying cuz i took her temp

right after while we were waiting to be seen by a dr. The dr told me that same thing that the one in the morning had said. SO i was pissed cuz my daughters temperature keeps increasing and they are telling me that shes ok when shes not. So i have been giving her motrin since yesterday. her fever decreases but once the meds fade her fever comes back. So this morning i took her temp before i left and it was 102.2. why is she still running a high fever? she is also coughing and is losing her voice. Any advice? thanks.

They arent lying, they gave her mortin and sent her to UC, of course its going to be normal.
Babies can have fevers like this. Kids and fever are different than adults and fever.
What would be concerning is if she's lethargic (this is different than tired, its when you cannot get her to fully wake up, and she will not respond to waking) her fever will not come down with pain killers, or its over 104.
What you've described is a child with an infection of some sort. Chances are its some sort of virus. They know its a virus because she has no rash with the fever, or no signs of strep with fever. These things would indicate a need for antibiotics- and generally at that point your child is very ill, not just fevery.
Alternate between tylenol and motrin (once the four hours is up on the tylenol, giver he montrin, when the 8 is up on the motrin, give her tylenol- dont let her go without it in her system), keep her hydrated, and see how she is in a couple days. Her fever should break soon.
I just read what you added. She has a virus, like a cold or something. Its normal for the fever to come up when medication is not in her. Thats the sign that her body is fighting whats in her, its not a sign of a problem. Tylenol and motrin dont get rid of a fever, they reduce it until the body no longer needs to run a fever- to avoid the potential complications that fevers can some times have on people.
What i said stands. If she develops a rash with the fever, or is having difficulty breathing take her back in. Otherwise keep meds in her and liquid ready for her to drink.

Does she have a pediatrician? Maybe you should take her there instead of going to the er and urgent cares. My 6yr old is going through the same thing. I took him to the dr on Weds and she said it's a virus. Last night his temp was over 102 again. It just has to run it's course. If she has green snot and mucus, I'd take her back in. If everything is clear, just keep her well hydrated and comfortable. You can alternate Motrin and an hour later give Tylenol if the Motrin alone isn't breaking the fever. Fevers in kids can get alot higher than adults. They tolerate fevers much better than adults.

A fever is actually a good thing. As long as your daughter is kept comfortable, ie the Tylenol, and it does not STAY hot...over 103 degrees... for more than three or more days, the infection/virus your daughter has is being driven out by the fever. Her body is trying to heal itself. If she has a sore throat, soothe it with water/juice even a popsicle. You may also give her a warm/tepid bath with some lavendar.
It does sound like a virus.

Around this time a lot of kids get viruses. Are there any other symptoms other then fever?
Have you taken your child to his or her regular dr? I would do that.
The ER people dont really tell you alot and dont really help out that much.
A fever is the bodies way off fighting off an infection. Keeep giving meds and fluids. Take her to her ped. or Dr. Sometimes fever lasts a while.

Check into a local pediatric allergy specialist.
It is possible that the child has a very common allergy that is lowering his/her immune system. That can sometimes cause a fever, cough, etc. Viral infections can hang out for weeks sometimes. They especially love to linger if there is something aggravating their system already.
Go for the RAST test instead of the skin testing at first, see what the doc says and if you don't see improvement or don't agree with them.... try, try again.
Just a thought!

Sometimes a viral infection can take up to seven days to run it's course. I would keep her comfortable with tylenol and/or motrin until she can see her regular pediatrician. You might be able to convince them to work you in if you explain your problem. If you have a gut insinct (mother's instinct) that something is wrong, it's very likely there is. Good luck and I hope she feels better soon!

Yes, I have advice - take her to pediatrician ASAP - as a Mother of 5 (they are all grown now) I can tell you that most urgent care places do NOT WANT a sick child in their environment. Take her to a doctor who specializes in children's diseases!

I would take her to a different ER and to a different doctor. Pediatricians should NOT turn away sick babies!
