I would just like to say, are you people really that ignorant? Seriously.. the facts are right there and it's showing the increased levels of CO2 in our atmostphere and has been tested to keep in sunlight. So what's the big deal, and I would just like to say Al Gore did not invent it, scientist's did. Al Gore just simply funded the idea and is now trying to prevent it. IT'S RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOUR EYES PEOPLE, quit trying to say it's fake because YOU WILL be sorry when your kids are suffering because of your mistake.. And I honestly dont care if you guys care about what I have to say and for you guys that do, I'm only 17 and I'm really smart when it comes to our planet and the universe. Thanks for your time.

First off, I never said anyone was stupid.. I said ignorant which means lacking general education or knowledge. And don't judge me when I'm only 17 and I could care less if I look stupid or dumb because I got college classes and I'm going to the airforce, I wasn't calling anyone dumb. And how is it just going to go away when it's been happening for years now, and yes it has happened in the past but now humans are contributing so it's happening at a more rapid pace then usual. But whatever i'm not trying to argue with anyone and if you think it's going to just go away and it doesnt, then who looks wrong?

For those of you who agree and dont judge me because of my age, thanks. I know my age has a big factor on my thoughts and ideas, but I have a really big IQ for my age and I put my age mainly on there to see who would attack my ideas because of my age, which makes them prove nothing because i'm talking about Global Warming, but thanks to you who agree and not go against my age :-) .

Ignorance!!!

2007-10-26 07:40:05 · answer #1 · answered by Pancho G 1 · 2 3

You may be smart, but you certainly show a good bit of ignorance.
For one, Al Gore is not trying to prevent GW. If GW goes away, where's his career? Anyone truly trying to prevent GW would not be running up personal utility bills higher than many small businesses. And what did he fund? Did he fund all of the studies that have been done? I doubt it. Any money he may have put towards research was nothing more than an investment he will be expecting a return on. And the only way he can get a return on his investment is to keep preaching the B.S.
Secondly, I really don't think many people believe that GW is fake. Most people accept the fact that there is a certain degree of climate change going on. The debate mostly seems to be:
A. The rate of change and future global implications.
B. The main cause of the change.
C. Whether or not anything can be done to prevent the change from continuing.
As for the facts, I can find just as much data supporting the belief that GW is a natural process as you can claiming it is predominately man-made.
Yes, you may be smart, but you have very little common sense, it would appear.

You have made the mistake of equating a high IQ to being smart. Book smarts won't get you far without common sense and wisdom, which you seem to have very little of. Like most kids your age, and I know because I have raised three past it, you seem to think you have all the answers and will not even consider other opinions unless they are similar to yours. In another twenty years, if you are lucky, you might have the wisdom and common sense to realize how foolish you were.

They think it's fake because they're morons.
I should pity these morons who say that global warming isn't real, but I don't. I just hope those morons don't live near the coast lines. Global warming is a natural occurrence, but this time around it's being accelerated by man and that's been happening since the start of the industrial revolution. Before these morons give a negative answer, they need to do some research on the subject. Check out the NASA satellite photos of the North and South poles of a few years ago and of now. Check out the worlds glaciers, or what's left of them. If Antarctica alone should have a total melt down, that WILL raise the oceans water level 230 feet.
Take a look at some of the African nations that can't grow food to feed their own people because of the temperature has gotten to hot to grow food. Those are drought stricken nations with millions of starving people. Those morons who don't believe in global warming need to go there and talk to those people. But they won't, because they're afraid to face the truth.

Careful man, you're gonna burn out. 17 seems to be the age, that's when it hit me. You're smart and there's a lot of ignorance in the world, don't let it get you down. All I can say is there's a lot of inertia behind the current way of doing things. When you go up against it you will get rolled over. Better to fight smart. If you have the strength to come right out swinging, more power to you. Just remember the winner is the last guy standing at the end. Take some time and do your own study and research. You really have to understand the basic science to see the truth of the arguments. Always be honest with yourself. Why do you care about these things? When you have some depth of understanding and are truthful in your motives, you will come to the best conclusion for you, whatever that may be.

I don't trust the scientists pushing global warming on ethical and logical grounds. Its not that I don't think its real, I just think it is mostly natural and less than is often pushed. There are evidences of vastly different climates in the past like palm trees in England, or ice ages across like Canada and much of the northern US. I admit the so called "hocky stick" looks impressive, but not so much when you see it in the larger perspective of centuries and millenia. I've also herd that there is golbal warming on Mars, suggesting it may be related to solar activity. Before global warming was the "in topic," Nova did a story about ice core tests at one of the poles, where they concluded that the earth used to go from too hot for life to too cold to too hot again over the corse of just a couple years.

Allso if scientists don't at least try to compare their ideas to those in the Bible, I feel they aren't looking at the whole picture. The Bible does suggest that we are to care for the earth, but I suspect that much of the global warming push may come from atheists that are trying to hijak ultimate control of the earth from God, thus elevating man's position in an act of arrogance. After all the Bible says in Psalm 104: 9 that God has set a boundary that the water cannot cross. While this boundary may be higher than the waters some predict for global warming, such passages should be explored theologically. Also, the Canopy Theory of the pre-Noahian flood suggests that global warming could be a good thing once the initial change is dealt with, promoting plant growth, thickening the ozone layer, and promoting healing and long-life.

Consequently, while I still am not certain, I think that global warming is unavoidable and so society's energies would be better spent learning to deal with it rather then fighting it. It is as though an avalanche is coming and we are focusing intense efforts to remove one pebble. They would be better spent figuring out what to do since the avalanche is comming anyway. Such as halting growth in areas likely to be flooded by rising water (sorry New Orleans) and considering the changing conditions when farmers choose the crops to plant each year. After all, the only thing constant in life is change.

I'm not so sure people are saying it's fake. People are just saying that humans aren't responsible for it. Were people responsible for the ice age that happened before we were here ? Are people responsible for the global warming currently on Mars ? ( yes, it's true, look it up ) Has NASA ever noticed the ozone layer without the hole in it ? Isn't it true that the very first time they analyzed the ozone layer that the hole was there and it's never changed from it's current fluctuations ? Global Warming is just another topic of the decade. Think about it, are we still concerned about the Spotted Owls ? Back in the early 90's the Spotted Owl was one of the biggest environmental concerns. Now, nobody talks about them because it's been shown they do thrive in second growth forests. The earth has always fluctuated and the CO2 argument will be dismissed as incorrect in the next few years. But by then, we'll be on to our next "big" emergency and everybody will just forget about Global Warming like we've forgotten about Spotted Owls.

What I find to be funny is that the people who are so adamant that global warming is a huge threat were the same people saying we were headed for an ice age just 30 years ago.
Which is it? You can't have it both ways.

I think most people are reasonable and agree with the concept of conserving as much as possible, because it's the responsible thing to do. However, you get a lot of whack-jobs who take things too far and it turns people off. For example, I've heard people say to KILL MY DOGS because they contribute to global warming? Honestly, WTF kind of drug does someone have to be taking to suggest such a thing? How can you take anyone seriously when they behave like that? I've also heard grills should be banned, so should toasters and COWS. Coming up with more reasonable solutions might help ward off some of the negativity. You bring up Al Gore - the man who has a big mansion and jet sets - doing more damage than my entire family will. You ought to see how environmentally friendly GW's house is, and you'd be shocked to see that Al Gore seems to be talking the talk and not walking the walk. When the self-made spokesperson for a cause does things that contradicts his own message, how can you not expect criticism?
I also find it funny that there are reports showing how horrible the air quality is in China. People are being told to stay in their homes because it's not breathable there. When you have such a huge problem, why are we not making a bigger deal about this? There's such a HUGE opportunity to do something significant there, yet instead we're harassing the average Joe America because he grills steaks on the weekends. Come on. People are cranky because the only "solutions" you've come up with are unreasonable, yet you try to make them feel like crap because they're unwilling to do it. Find something feasible to suggest - and you might get less resistence.

Well said, Bryan.

Some of the answers here give you a good idea. For example, the person who used warming on Mars as evidence that humans aren't causing warming on Earth. This argument is very easily debunked - Mars is an entirely different planet, warming for entirely different reasons - namely dust storms darkening its surface:

http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2007/04/070404-mars-warming.html

On top of that, only about half the planets in our solar system were warming. If the Sun were responsible, then every planet would be warming.

And on top of that, scientists have examined the Sun's output directly and found that it's decreased slightly since 1980, while global warming has accelerated rapidly

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/6290228.stm
http://www.pubs.royalsoc.ac.uk/media/proceedings_a/rspa20071880.pdf

But people don't bother to check if claims like this are accurate. They just think 'hey yeah, if it's warming on Mars and there are no SUVs there, then that means humans aren't causing warming on Earth!'. It helps convince them of what they want to think - that humans aren't to blame. If they dug a little deeper they might find out that humans are responsible for the Earth's warming, and who wants that?

The main reason people think global warming is fake or not primarily caused by humans is because they haven't researched the issue beyond what they hear on talk radio. They simply don't want to believe that humans are responsible, so they seek out information which seems to prove that it's due to something else.

Almost everybody who's researched the issue thoroughly (including climate scientists) agrees that humans are the primary cause of the current warming, because that's what all the scientific evidence indicates.

No, scientists discovered it.

They think it is fake because they haven't the guts to face the reality and responsibility.

Don't worry about all those sceptics, every newish person around here who shows some common sense regarding GW seems to attract this amount of attention, they don't know you and therefore think you don't know anything. A climatologist would get the same treatment!! Saying you're 17 didn't help either!

What's the IQ? Go on, spill the beans.

Because it is NOT right in front of your eyes. My life goes on as usual. There are no effects that I can SEE myself. I have only seen the ice of Greenland once, from an airliner on the way to Europe. So if it has changed, I can't see it. I cannot see CO2 in the air. Sea level is up 8 inches in 100 years. That is just not enough to actually SEE. The beach looks the same now as it did in 1960 when I was a child. No change that I can SEE. Global warming is very slow and subtle. It cannot just be casually noticed. Al Gore says this all the time. He says it will creep up on us unnoticed because it is so slow and subtle.

The concept of global warming was started by the same scientist who promoted global cooling in the 1970's. At that time he suggested speading soot over the arctic poles in an effort to warm them.

This is true. Look it up.
