I don't want to get ripped off or buy a lemon, so I might be working on buying a car for months.

Here are my preferences:
1. A stick shift vehicle (because for example it might have an extra gear at a lower cost).
2. Roll down windows (because they tend to work well for a long time and are less expensive to repair).
3. A car high in the air (because it would have an easier time getting through snow and would be better preserved underneath when less water splashes on it).
4. A car that costs less than about $20,000 (because I think that that is enough to pay to get a good car and I am not looking for luxury).
5. A car that is inexpensive to maintain (because I don't want huge repair bills after spending so much for a car).
6. A car that gives pretty good gasoline mileage (must be either a four cylinder or a six cylinder).
7. A four door car (because they cost about the same and strike me as much more pleasant).
8. An option of four wheel drive (to combine with being a little elevated to get through snow.

I don't intend ever to sell this car.

Please help and let me know if I have given too much or too little info!

I didn't mean higher on the ground than any car. But some are lower than others.

I would highly recommend a Subaru Outback, or Subaru Forester. They have a good ground clearance, the best All Wheel Drive system in the world, they are very reliable, come in 4 door models with manual tranny, within price range if used, just not sure about the manual windows, it would probably have automatic. It is going to be hard to find a car that is of any good quality that is newer that still uses manual windows.
Also, Subaru's are in AWD all the time, it is not optional, so I'm not sure if that is what you are looking for, but believe me, it is the best. I live in Maine, and my old Subie's AWD system got me through places that Jeep Grand Cherokee's, Ford Explorer's and Chevy Silverado's got stuck in.

Hmm, stick shift, base model, foreign, sedan, with AWD option. Sounds like a subaru truck to be honest. Most cars aren't that high off the ground. If you want the AWD, for the price you are looking for go check out subaru. All of their vehicles have AWD. Otherwise, you will have to stick to something that is FWD or RWD (I would advise FWD due to snow.) You will probably have to give up something, either the height because that is a truck, or the AWD, because most vehicles aren't.

You should get a Subaru Legacy. It comes with a manual transmission, AWD, 4 doors, etc.
