Whats the difference? If God truly exists then explain the cruel World that we live in? I think you answered your own question?

Not a chance. I'm not going to argue for or against the existence of God, but anyone who thinks that religion is the cause of "endless turmoil" in this world is endlessly naive. If there is no God, then we're still responsible for poverty, torture, prejudice, hunger, crime, and war. I move that if there IS a God, we STILL are responsible for all these things. God or no God, humanity is responsible for its actions. Some people will argue that religion is a problem, noting religious wars, crusades, and even 9/11, but this is a gross inaccuracy of man's ability to be peaceful. Many wars, including the World Wars that literally killed tens of millions of people, have had no religious-basis whatsoever. Most crime and domestic abuse is not religion-based. Poverty has little to do with religion. Many historians and sociologists have since debunked the theory that religion even was responsible for most "religious" wars, arguing that the true causes of those wars were matters of power and control. Did terrorists crash into the Pentagon and WTC because of religion, or was it really jealousy about Western power and economic might and perceived interference by the West in matters of local economics, politics, and culture? Odds are religion is the window-dressing to deeper and more secular problems. Think of it this way: if there was no religion, would people magically stop being greedy, selfish, and psychologically dysfunctional? Hardly. Some people are good. Some are bad. Most people are somewhere in between. Ultimately it is up to us to lean toward good and work at ending world turmoil. This holds true regardless of whether or not God exists.

If there is no God then why, when the ground shakes, do you look up?
The song writer said "Every time I hear a new born baby cry, or touch a leaf, or see the sky, then I know why I believe."
Man created the Taj Mahal and the Mona Lisa. God created the sunset and a child's smile. Is there really any comparison?
Revelation tells us that at some point God WILL abandon those who have abandoned him. The picture painted is not pretty.
It is the overall belief in something greater than yourself that keeps us all grounded and steers us away from the "endless turmoil"

The world is endless turmoil because so many people do not follow God's word.

the world is endless turmoil now and its all in the name of a so called god

If there is no god, there WAS no god, either. So the turmoil is the doing of a world without a god and things will be exactly as it was.

I believe in God but that doesn't mean I believe he's doing anything. The whole free will concept means that the world is pretty much the same regardless of the existence of God. And if you look back at the history of humanity there has always been conflict, bloody, vicious genocidal conflict. So in conclusion there would be no difference.

I think it's one of the great ironies of the world that the three great religions, all supposedly based on love and tolerance and the brotherhood of man, are the source of all the hatred and intolerance and us-vs-them mentality in the world today!

But I don't think it's God's fault. I don't know if we'd be better off if nobody believed in God, I didn't used to want to think so but lately I think I'm changing my mind about that. Christians, Muslims and Jews -all- have been guilty of some pretty egregious excesses. Agnostics don't hijack airplanes and fly them into buildings, or wipe out whole cultures in the name of God, or treat nonbelievers as second-class citizens.

I know that there are many people who state that they do not believe in God. It makes me sad. I find comfort in what I call "Ken's Tree".

At a time when i was questioning my faith I attended a funeral of a missionary who died from cancer at the age of 31. While standing in the cold winter wind a brown leaf floated in front of me; and then another. I looked up and saw a tree almost completely bare of leaves. I went to the tree, touched it and smelled it.

i realized then that there are stages we go through in life. Ken's Tree reminded me of the seasons that we go through.

Spring where it is beginning to bloom, summer provides our shade, fall as we enjoy what we have, and the winter as a time of rest. And, then in the spring the tree again wakes up and begins another stage.

If a simple tree can bring forth so much; doesn't it just shout at you that God does the same for us.

I do not judge others in their beliefs, but i will (and do) pray for those who question if God is real.

Just think - a simple tree proves that there is more than what some just take for advantage.

I call my God, the Lord, with belief that Jesus, His son, died on that cross to grant me forgiveness, and that His Holy Spirit is with me every second. He also granted me free will but yet God already knows where my life will end and where I will go. He knows this because He knows everything. I do not believe in pre-destination -- but God already knows the answer.

Call the Lord whatever you want. But I pray that you belive that there is a higher power out there somewhere.

Sometimes when i see the news I will cry at what is going on in this world. And, then I think that God is sitting on a cloud with sad eyes and shaking His head slowly as he sees what we have done, with our free will, to all that He has given us.

This sort of reminds me of that story about "Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus".

All you need is the faith of the size of a mustard seed to walk thru those gates in Heaven.

I'm sorry but there is no way to answer your questions because they contradict each other. I pray you find more faith than what you have now.

It would remove religion as an excuse for war or as a tool for stirring population up enough to start wars.
The question is not the effect of "God" as much as it is the effect of religion as a tool of mass manipulation.
