The other day I was walking back from the store and saw a dead squirrel in front of a neighbour's driveway. The body was still in tact and not destroyed by oncoming cars yet. So, I went up to tell the owners of the house it was in front of. They said 'Thank you and it's ok'. I assumed they meant they were going to call someone or perhaps clean it up themselves. The next day it was still there but squished by ongoing traffic beyond recognition.
I feel that this was really disrespectful to the poor squirrel. The owners of the house where it was killed should have had the respect to move the corpse to a safe place before it got run over again. What do you think?

You can't expect someone to clean up a dead animal from the road. If it bothered you so much, you could do it yourself. Personally, I wouldn't touch a dead animal. Between possible disease and possibly getting hit by a car myself, I'd leave the poor squirrel be. I don't think it minds.

Sad, but be glad it wasn't a dog--especially your dog or your neighbor's. I don't know about "disrespect" to the poor squirrel, but it appears your neighbors simply don't care. Next time it happens, I guess you'll have to remove the animal yourself. To say any more would just irritate the neighbor, and you probably don't need to do that..

Huh? The squirrel was in the road which is town property. The neighbor is not responsible and should NOT be responsible for picking the dead animal up. The town has crews for that. About your "disrespect" comment, I don't know what planet you're from, but on Earth animals are still NOT people.

Why didn't you move it? If it was in the street, it wasn't necessarily their problem. The city that cleans the streets will get it - when they have time/equipment. I don't think it's lack of respect, just maybe that kind of thing makes them sick, and they don't really want it in their garbage or whatever.
If you are that concerned, take the responsibility to dispose of it before it becomes a worse problem. That would set a good example, and put your mind at ease.

Although you have respect for this animal, the neighbors may not. Since they did not run over it, they probably don't feel responsible. I have found out that if you want something done, do it.

um, it is dead. I could see if it were a dog, a deer, a cow, something more unsightly and in the way, but it apparently wasn't a problem for them. If it is a problem for you, next time call your local public works dept and they will come and remove the animal....or you could do it yourself.

You should have reported it to whoever you would contact for that and NOT the neighbor.

Who says THEY killed the guy? It could have been someone else.

They probably didn't want to bother. I would have just moved it myself.
