Would a cage that's 36 inches long and 18 inches wide be big enough for two female guinea pigs?

As long as they were taken out a lot to play then yes it would just about be ok, but if you could get a bigger one it would be better

Yeah, that would be big enough.

I THINK my cage is a BIT smaller, and my guinea pigs are still VERY happy and healthy!

The general idea is, you want a cage that is AT LEAST 7.5 square feet, so your guinea pigs have lots of room to roam. The larger the cage, the less time you need to spend with your pigs. (Even then, you will need to spend a fair amount of time with them)

This site should help you a lot:

Hope this helps!
Good luck!

P.S. If you are concerned that the cage you have isn't enough room, you can easily make a C&C cage for under 60$. Check out these sites:

Nevermind, sorry! I just mesured those mesurements, and that is a little too small for a guinea pig. I suggest you buy a cage with a BIT more room. By the way, my cage is actually bigger- it's about 40 inches long, and 20 inches wide. THAT is big enough for two guinea pigs, and I got that cage at the petstore for a reasonable price!

It is too small for two female guinea pigs and even for just one guinea pig. Guinea pigs may be small, but they need a lot of space to live in. For one guinea pig, the cage measurements have to be at least 30" x 36". For two guinea pigs, the cage measurements have to be at least 30" x 50".

You can make cages that meets the cage size requirements. They're called Cubes and Coroplast cages a.k.a. C&C cages. It is said to be easy to make and easy to clean because of the bigger space.

If you make a C&C cage that meets the cage size requirements, I can guarentee a pair of happy female piggies!

No, that is not big enough for two guinea pigs. Guinea pigs need lots of room to run and also for their "bubble" so they don't fight. A better size would be 30" x 50" or around 7.5 square feet. This is easier than it sounds! http://www.guineapigcages.com will give you all the information you need to make a nice big, fun cage for two girls to live happily in.

To keep your piggies healthy, you should provide them with as large a cage as possible. The bigger the better.

One pig should have a minimum of 7.5 square feet of space. Two pigs should have around 10 square feet of space.

You won't be able to find this large of a cage in a pet store. You will need to build your own following the instructions on http://www.guineapigcages.com/ . Click on the C&C Cages icon on the left side of the page for ideas & instructions on how to build one of these cages. Don't be intimidated---they are very easy to construction & cost waaaaay less than a too-small pet store cage. C&C cages are easy to clean & provide proper ventilation needed for your piggies to be healthy.

Good luck!

It sounds a little narrow, but it may work if you will be taking them out a lot to play and run around (running is very important to them). The bigger the better--think, how much room would YOU want with you and a roommate? I have an 80 gallon terrarium for my girls, and I wouldn't go any smaller.

Another thing you can try is a Rubbermaid bin. They have HUGE ones, and they are a lot cheaper than the pet store wire ones (and easier to keep clean). Plus, because the sides are opaque, it adds a feeling of security for the pigs too. (I used one when I had only one, and she loved it. In fact, when I tried to move her into the aquarium, she didn't like it as much.)

Maybe a little wider. When my mom was young they had guinea pigs and they lived in the garage. They would open the door to the backyard and they would go out there and play. One would lead them in a line. They had fruit trees in the backyard. Fruit would fall off and ferment on the ground. Guinea pigs would eat and go back in garage in wiggly line.

they need fairly big cage, I just bought a £70 cage for my big boys and they love it. Im not sure of measurements but its a big cage. But they also need to be taking out and given at least 1hrs exercise. I cant do that all the time so thats why I bought the cage. Means your changing them less more room for them.
