1.) Jimmie Johnson. This week, the Smokeless Set heads to Atlanta, which is a very close parallel to Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte. Johnson, of course, completely dominates Charlotte (and has the best finishing average on the Alanta/Charlotte/Texas track style over the last three and six seasons). Johnson also won here in Atlanta back in March, and finished second in the Atlanta race last fall, on his way to his first points title. For sure, J.J. is points racing from here on in, dueling with his teammate Jeff Gordon (+660) for the '07 championship, but the best way to stay out of trouble at a super-fast unrestricted place like Atlanta is get out front and stay there.
2.) Tony Stewart. Smoke has to be disappointed in his Chase, as he's almost certainly not going to win his third points title. But he won this event last fall, and has only failed to finish in the top 10 in Atlanta once the last 12 times he's raced here. So you know he's going to be near the front, and you have to believe Stewart will worry less about points than the Hendrick guys when push comes to shove. He'll want to win this race, and I give him a decent chance to do so.
3.) Carl Edwards. It's probably wishful thinking that Edwards can win this event after all the negative publicity surrounding him after a post-race incident with his teammate Matt Kenseth (+1021). After Martinsville, Edwards interrupted an interview Kenseth was doing to confront him about something that happened between them on the track, and Edwards mock-punched Kenseth, whereupon Kenseth flinched as though he assumed, "Yeah, this *** could actually punch me in the face." (You can see the video right here.) No doubt, King Carl will have a lot of 'splaining to do at Atlanta this week, and some of the veneer has definitely come off his pristine image. But remember also that Edwards has the second-best finishing average on this track style over the last three seasons, and he's won twice at Atlanta. I think these odds are tasty, on the off chance Edwards turns around and wins a race to prove everyone wrong about him.

1. Clint Bowyer - Mister consistency needs one late break to win a late Chase race...this will be the week.
2. Kyle Busch - Currently sixth in the standings, just may be patient enough to creep up the Chase ladder.
3. Bobby Labonte - Will make it an easy decision for Petty Enterprises to pull a driver switch for the intial five races in 2008 after this solid points run.

1) Kasey Kahne - Says he has a heck of a car this weekend, he won here last year, and after this season, it's his turn to go to Victory Lane! I think he's got the motivation and the car to pull it off.
2) Tony Stewart - Knows time is running out, and he needs to get his rear in gear. I don't think he'll quite be able to edge out Kasey for the win though.
3) Kurt Busch - Has had a couple of bad runs in the Chase, but his car looked awesome during what I saw of qualifying, and I think his luck might be starting to turn around, even if it is a little late now.
