I didn't mean to discriminate agaist the Jews . Not at all. I was just using the time frame where the OT was used as the book of law when cruxifictions were supposedly taking place . I understand that criminals of the Jewish and Roman states were both tied to wooden crosses and left to die . Of course the Christians used the same thought process to conduct the Crusades and the Inquesitions , and the Muslims used it to support Jihad .

Raymond Brown provides information on Jewish attitudes towards the crucified as well:
As we have seen (pp. 532-33 above), there is solid evidence that in Jesus' era crucifixion came under the Jewish laws and customs governing hanging, and in particular under Deut 21:22-23: "If there shall be against someone a crime judged worthy of death, and he be put to death and you hang him on a tree, his body shall not remain all night on the tree; but you shall bury him the same day, for cursed of God is the one hanged."

Steel , The Jews would usually stone the person to death or near death and then hang the body from a tree , or makeshift tree such as in crucifixtion for display . The Romans tended to be a bit more violent ( if that can be said) , in their treatment , as they used swords and whips and such .

Because god told them too. He said to kill:

If someone with broken stones approaches the altar
if a raped woman doesn't cry out loud enough
if a man picks up sticks on the sabbath
a man hold hands with a woman from a different trieb
A woman wearing 2 different materials
and on and on and on....

Murder is the crime of taking the life of another person with no just cause.

Even God allowed the killing of an individual who commits certain crimes. The Bible listed the crimes punishable by death. These became the reasons for "Just Cause", and even our current-day legal system supports some of these same guidelines.

Not every criminal or troublemaker was guilty of a crime punishable by death, so just as in today's world, different crimes have different punishments.

oh dear...

Crucifixion was a Roman punishment, it was the Roman way of publically torturing people to death. A Roman citizen could not be crucified except for treason.

Jews "stoned" people, which isn't as fun as it may sound...they would bludgeon a person to death with big rocks---but it was quicker and more merciful than crucifixion.

Thou shall not kill is as in murder. There is to be order in every civilization. Death for transgressions is in intricate part of Law. It was to keep justice and piece in the countries and communities. There is nothing in the Bible that says not to punish by death, on the contrary, there are several instances where it is actually what needs to be done. Especially in the Old Testament.

The bible states "If thy right hand offends thee", remember? We have no right to govern how other faiths interpret the bible. America still has the death penalty in some states, and to be honest I wish we still had it in Britain!
