Okay, get ready for this because i'm sure there's going to be a line of thumbs down headed my way. Here's the type of answers you're going to get:

1) Navy because it's easy.
(this is going to come from people who've never been in the military, don't know what hot bunking is, etc)

2) Marines are tough, woot. Everyone else is the suxxor. We could win wars with ONLY the marines and everyone else should be disbanded.
(this is going to come from people who've never been in the military, but think that they should wear stars on their shoulders because of a few history channel episodes

3) Marines are the hottest
(from star struck girls hyped up on some strange myth. truth of the matter is, services don't choose based on "attractiveness" levels)

4) Ugh, ugh ugh, GGRRRR, UGH!!!
(from the actual marines. I'm kidding, of course, the marines are very pround of what they do, but the most effective marine leaders i've ever met realize the joint nature of warfare today and how NO service branch will get very far without integration)

Things like these answers are patented BS:
~~ Marines are the only honorable/tough/manly branch
~~ Marines don't have specialties
~~ Marines are the first ones in every time
~~ Everyone wishes they could be a marine.
~~ The navy is gay (this one is only allowed to be used by people who are IN the military as a joke. Otherwise you'll offend the navy guys and their boyfriends... haha)

Honestly, decide based on your own choices. Are you interested in sea power? strategic maneuvering of ships? technical and distance based warfare? Combat support? Sea based air power projection? Commanding US Vessels at sea (if you're an officer)? That's the navy for you.

Are you interested in going on boots on the sand missions? Do you WANT to deploy in the field? Is fighting with integrated light sea and air support your thing? Do you want to test your limits of mental and physical endurance? Can you handle whatever mission is given to you (frontline combat or combat support... the marines have both)? That's the marines for you.

Can't help with either! I get seasick!!! ;)

Seriously, though, Marine training is grueling and will make you a better man, at least, physically; Navy training is more technical and may be more suitable for potential jobs when you leave the service.

Oddly, out of all my friends and family who are or who have been in the service, I know of only two who served in the Navy! Percentage-wise (admittedly, this is just a guess), 75% are/were Army, 10% Marines, 10% Air Force, 4% Coast Guard, Merchant Marine, or National Guard, and 1% Navy.

I'd pick Marines just because of the sheer kickass methods taught to everyone who joins. However, all military branches are honorable. The Navy bears a heavy load in all conflicts and sometimes the things enlisted Sailors do make a bigger impact on the war than the grunts. Its all connected. Marines are a department of the Navy. Plus, no Navy, no fleet to cart around Marines.

These are 2 great career's or just a short time (4to6 yr's), job. I was in the Navy and wouldn't change that for anything. I also worked side by side with the Marines whom so many were my friends. I will not promote either one over the other, even though I was Navy. Both have so much to offer. Job security and benefits are matched by no civilian corporation in the world. Travel and education opportunities are fabulous. I suggest you research the two services and talk with some in the two branches now, and those who have served. Make an informed decision that best fits your career goals and dreams. GOOD LUCK! which ever choice you make.

You can't compare the two. They are night and day. Even though the Marines work close with the Navy, the type people are very different.

Well it depends on what you are looking for, talk to both branches. Then think about what each has to offer. Also think about what you have to offer the Marines or Navy. Think about the intangibles that you will gain (i.e. to serve your country, pride, confidence, the things money can't buy)...I chose the Marines...Just by stepping into the recruiters office I made my deicision. I saw how Marines carried themselves, the pride and confidence they have. When you talk a Marine recruiter they will give you about 10 cards to chose what benefits you are looking to gain by joining the military, chose the three that best fit your needs. I chose pride of belonging, confidence, and self disapline. But, most importantly deicide on which branch by yourself and only yourself. Hope my answer helps...

It all depends what kind of field u want to go into. If u wanna be a ground pounder go into the Corps if not Navy. Better yet be a Corpsman in the Navy and go with the Marines. its the only sailor that Marines care about

I'm x-af, 79-86. I shulda went Marines, but wussied out. Given todays situation, if I'm gonna fight I wanna fight with the best that kicks the most. I wasn't into the close quarters of a Naval vessel. Your chance of being a Marine and being on sea duty are slim. How about Navy Seals? Special duties, special assignments and get your hands on some of the "sugar" most don't see or get a chance to use. Sea duty without getting stuck on board with a couple thousand/hundred other homies in close quarters and a chance to kick some 6. Talk to both, make a decision and stick with it, they're both good outfits.

Marines are an entirely unique breed of patriot... they do not have to ask "Which should I join?"...

So I suggest that maybe the Navy is best for you. With this I mean no disrespect for either branch. They're Americans! That's just the way it is.

Marines! Why? I want to be part of the few and proud and want to be a women in the Marines. Also, because I want to wear that kick a** uniform and have such a glorious tradition.
