I don't know why. I have a very strong belief in God but I question the bible. I think it's another book. Just like Cinderella. Not literally guys so don't kill me for saying that. But I often wonder why there are no giants roaming the earth today. I wonder why did Abraham (just picking a name here) live to be 865. But even as late as the 1800's the longevity of humans was maybe 65. I don't think it's totally made up but I think that many truths have been stretched. Also, think about how strong the Vatican is. They ruled for centuries and had absolute power. If they told us that at one point in time unicorns ruled the earth, then we'd still believe that today. The Greeks believe in Gods way before christianty was around. That was 'the' religion just like christianity is today. Then the christians come along and make it seem as if the Greeks believed in something evil. So who's to say that in another couple hundred of years that we won't be scientologists. I know I was all over the place on that one, sorry but I hope you catch my drift. Good question!

I can't say but since I don't it doesn't affect me. I do find it odd that most people who say this have never read even a single word of the original texts in the original language.

"Its historical accounts are flawlessly accurate. In fact, archaeology routinely demonstrates the accuracy of the biblical records concerning locations and events recorded in the Bible."

Lion of Judah, do you realize how bizarre that statement is? Have you read any of the original texts? Why would someone writing 2-3K years ago NOT write about the period and area they're living in? I would actually be much more impressed had they written about New Jersey. Do you know that there are documents written contemporary to the texts chosen to be in the 'bible' that are also geographically correct? You're making a great argument for the existence of Greek gods by the way.

If being geographically correct is proof of divine claims then you must be a follower of David Koresh. His writing are probably some of the most geographically confirmable. I'd say it's time for you to convert.

The bible is the number one book in the world because of its time. There were not so many books out there. Many writings have facts proven by scientists. Is it the ultimate truth no its missing a lot of information that has been kept secret by popes, its also changed in language so translations can be trickly. You have to decide what you feel is truth or not

Its historical accounts are flawlessly accurate. In fact, archaeology routinely demonstrates the accuracy of the biblical records concerning locations and events recorded in the Bible.

Because it purports to be a unified whole, 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20, and continued study of accurate translations reveals a rich tapestry of interconnected history, teaching and prophecy that is no only internally consistent, but has been substantiated by archaeological and scientific discoveries (I am not referring to theories here nor do I wish to engage in debate over the theories surrounding creation or the earth's age).

In addition, there is evidence of the God who caused the Bible to be written, Romans 1:18-20, and my faith continues to be validated since becoming a Christian.

Prophecy (among other things)

I'd just like to reply to weird darryl if I may:
It's easy to say things as if they're fact but history shows that the prophecy he mentioned (Isaiah 17v1) did in fact come true
At Ahaz request the Assyrian Tiglath-pileser III waged war against Damascus, conquering it and exiling many of its inhabitants & Damascus ceased to be a threat to Judah.
2 Kings 16 v 5-9
& 2 Chronicles 28 v 5, 16.
That was in fulfillment of prophecy

Its best to get the facts right before making statements

Edit to WD:
Damascus was brought down (If you bother to check your history books) & its people were led into exile. It wasn't a continued city as you're saying at all. It was desolated at that time as the prophecy foretold.
Thats what the prophecy in Isaiah means.

Of course, you'll see what you want to see

Faith - Faith is taking God at His Word. The Holy Bible is the Word of the Living God. Jesus said, " I am the way, the truth and the life and no one comes to the Father except by me."

Without Jesus there is no way, no life and no truth. Christ Jesus is the ABSOLUTE TRUTH.

Lion of Judah said, "it has been verified throughout history as being accurate." Read Isaiah 17.1 - "See, Damascus will no longer be a city but will become a heap of ruins." When did Damascus fail to be a city? When did it "become a heap of ruins"? Answer - NEVER!!! Your "infallible" Bible contains a clear failed prophecy. Of course, you will refuse to accept the fact that this prophecy failed.

Edit – To Ask_Elvis – Damascus may have been conquered and may have ceased to be a threat to Judah, but that is not what Isaiah 17.1 SAID. It said that Damascus would cease to be a city and would become a heap of ruins. That never happened! In fact, if you would bother to look it up, Damascus is the world’s oldest city with a continuous history. It has never ceased to be a city!

You need to get YOUR facts straight.

Edit - to Ask_Elvis - Right! The Bible doesn't mean what it says. It says that Damascus would be a heap of ruins and cease to be a city. But as you say, it MEANS that it would be defeated and people taken captive.
