You can overcome this by habituation. Yes, a psychological concept. Habituation occurs when we learn not to respond to repeated occurrences of a stimulus. For example, a novel sound in your environment, such as a new ring tone, may initially draw your attention or even become distracting. After you become accustomed to this sound, you pay less attention to the noise and your response to the sound will diminish. This diminished response is habituation.
Habituation has been used to treat fear of heights, airplanes, snakes, and spiders. It involves gradual and increasing exposure to the feared stimulus until you get used to it.
You could start by looking at a photo of the guy. Once you are used to that, start to get used to being in his presence [even at a distance] for a short period of time. Once you have mastered that, increase the length of exposure and draw yourself to a closer distance. It will take time, but eventually you will become accustomed to being around him. Get closer and closer until you get up the courage to speak with him.
FINALLY, THINK POSITIVELY. If you have negative thoughts, they will end up being a "self-fulfilling prophesy."

Well you definitley don't want to ignore him because he'll think you don't like him and look elsewhere. If you're that shy, be subtle about it. Talk about something interesting or tell a joke to someone when he's near you or listening to what you're saying. It'll make him want to approach you. Good luck!

i think it has something to do with your self-esteem... you're scared that they might not find you attractive therefore you tend to shy away from them... just act normal and think of them as a friend and not as a potential bf.
