and if so, why is it not possible to stop having faith in Jesus and start having faith in atheism?

Time without number former Muslims have converted to Christianity. This involves renouncing all belief in Mohammad as God's prophet and in what the Qur'an teaches that is opposed to the Bible's teaching. Unfortunately, a lot of them had to die for their new-found faith.

The reason why it is possible to stop having faith in Mohammad and to have faith in Jesus is that the message of those two prophets is mutually exclusive and incompatible. Unfortunately, Muslims are told very little about Jesus and are warned not to read accounts of what he did and said in the Christian Greek Scriptures.

It is also possible to stop having faith in Jesus (or Mohammad) and to become atheistic, as the first answer shows. If the reasons for having faith are not based on truth / fact, that faith is unlikely to survive testing. Only faith given by God lasts to eternity. It requires a certain humility to obtain that faith because it entails admiting one's sinfulness and unworthiness and to ask God for faith.

'Is it possible to stop having faith in Mohammad and begin having faith in Jesus?'

Very possible, very easy, though you may risk your life to say so. Your human life, that is.

'Why is it not possible to stop having faith in Jesus and start having faith in atheism?'

Atheism is always a lie, because nobody can prove that there is no God. Agnosticism _is_ possible, so you can go from belief to 'Don't know'.

Belief in God is rational and natural, because we know we didn't make ourselves and the universe, so somebody somewhere must have done so. Children know that much, some adults pretend not to.

People believe in Jesus for personal reasons, because he makes a difference to them and to others. Though if you have ever preached the gospel, and watched people's faces, you know that everyone believes in Jesus.

It is very possible to stop your faith or change your faith. it means that your faith is not strong. People generally loose faith because they do not understand life. they do not understand the challenges or the misfortions in life. People like that loose faith. Plus because they can not see or speak to God they loose faith. Weak people loose faith strong people keep faith.

Atheism is by definition a lack of faith.

Both of your proposals are possible. A reasoning person would examine the life of Muhammad and the discrepancies in his scripture and realize he was a cult leader who was in it for the money power and sex. It would take a harder case to reject Jesus on those grounds.

It's a common mistake, even among Atheists, to create God in Man's own image. . . .

As a muslimah I would say no. In Islam we have faith in Mohammad (pbuh) and Jesus (pbuh) as messengers of Allah. Please do not confuse when I say faith as to mean worship as Muslims worship God alone.

Oy! First, no one has "faith" in atheism. Atheism is the belief that there is no God. You don't have faith in it; it's not a religion. A Christian can become an atheist just as a Muslim can become a Christian and an atheist can become a Christian or a Muslim.

Faith in Jesus is to accept and rejoice in His divine nature as Son of the one true God.

muslims reject and deny His divine nature. In so doing, they reject and deny God Himself.

Is it possible for them to turn away from allah and enter into the love and mercy of the one true God? Yes, absolutely. All that they have to do is open their hearts and their minds to Him.

Is it possible to stop having faith in Jesus? I sincerely believe that when someone honestly comes to Christ and repents, that they are not capable of then denying Christ.
