Boxing is extremely brutal and potentially dangerous. They must feel a need to be close to God, in order to handle such a sport. God is important to a lot of people, when in times of struggle, most of the time not of their own choosing.

because most boxers come from urban areas that are very poor.
religion to them, helps them feel that they had some measure of control over thier lives and that they won't get hurt in the ring.
those that you see in televised events to make such comments on tv are the top of the world, the odds were stacked against them and they used religion to boost thier secutity or explain "why me?" when many of thier friends are probably living poor and having a rough life.

Why do some of the actress and actors.... get up on stage at the academy awards, etc. and say " I just want to think God for this" But they say that they aren't a Christian.. does that make any sense? No, I think it's just to appeal good to the audience

Why does anyone thank god? For example, do you really think that god had anything to do with some actor wining the best actor award? No one thanks god when they lose. It was funny to me when Peyton Manning and the colts won the superbowl "gods way". Does that mean that when they lost in the playoffs the year before to the Steelers that they "lost gods way?"

They are trying to make it more like a sport, plus if at the end of the fight if the boxers just left then they couldn't have an after party.

If we love violence we are hurting our relationship with God.
So why do they thank God?
They probably have never read the Bible or read the scripture above.

So they don't get brain damage. No seriously, because it is a grueling, physical battle overcoming your opponent - so you thank god for giving you your talent, skill or luck. Plus there is a chance you could die in the ring.
