First, let's not borrow trouble. She might not have lung cancer. If she does, the majority of lung cancer is non-small cell. Prognosis depends on stage of cancer. Here's a prognosis table of non-small cell cancer from Wikipedia. (Sorry the table's not lined up well.) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-small_cell_lung_carcinoma_staging

Non-small cell lung carcinoma survival by stage[2] Grouping Survival rate (per cent)
One year Two years Three years Four years Five years
IA 91% 79% 71% 67% 61%
IB 72% 54% 46% 41% 38%
IIA 79% 49% 38% 34% 34%
IIB 59% 41% 33% 26% 24%
IIIA 50% 25% 18% 14% 13%
IIIB 34% 13% 7% 6% 5%

My dad was diagnosed with lung cancer last october (2006) and has smoked since he was a teen.
They did an experimental chemo treatment on him and then a laser to destroy the tumor that was left and we are waiting to hear any day now from the dr that he is cancer free.
It has been a miracle!!!

It all depends on how soon they caught the cancer. Many people live from lung cancer. She needs to stop smoking though. You cant do many treatments while smoking.

Good, if she seeks holistic treatment and it isn't too advanced or she isn't too weak from chemo poison.
