What is your question? You have to know that in several parts of the world it's not only illegal to marry a cousin but socially unacceptable. If you want to know why folks find that weird I guess would have to ask the folks you know. It would be weird to me because typically a 1st cousin is just like a sibling and you wouldn't marry your brother would you?

I am not sure what you are looking for. If it is not illegal where you are from and other people do it then why does it matter what we think. Of course majority of the people on here are going to think that it weird because it is not a part of our normally accepted culture. So I think your seek approval in the wrong area.

Would I have married my first cousin, no. He is part of my family, part of my blood. It's just not done where I am from. And no matter where you are the problem that could arise for any children you may conceive are the same. I would really consider that, seriously before you act. Are you ready to handle a child that may be born with abnormal complications?

Okay, let's just for one moment think this question is serious.

1. If it is legal in your country (as you say it is) why do people find it weird?

2. Why are you posting your question in this particular forum? Many of us are from the US, UK or neighboring nations---where this kind of marriage is NOT legal.

3. Are you looking for someone to say it's okay, or are you trying to get a rise out of everyone?

4. Regardless of what we say, you will marry him anyway, right? You would if you profess to love him the way you say you do.

5. Have you given any thought to what kind of genetics related disease or conditions that you may pass onto your children (if you choose to have them in the future)?

It is weird...much closer related and you'd be screwing your own brother. I know some countries allow that and even some states. But why they allow it is beyond me.

EDIT 10/27/07 : If you are so insistent on marrying your first cousin...please click on this link: http://www.wtol.com/global/story.asp?s=7273770
This is what happens when the family tree doesn't branch very far...if you decide to have children with your first cousin, you're being very selfish.

It's not illegal to marry a first cousin in most states of the US.

However, you must be aware that your future children could face some serious genetic problems.

Whatever floats you Ganny. You are going to have to be careful if considering having offspring as there is a strong possibility of defects because of the blood line.

You need to get better at trolling questions; there was a very similar one just a few days ago.

whether it's legal or not, I would be curious as to the increased risk if any of birth defects among children of people so closely related.

That is illegal in most states. A 3rd of fourth is the closest you can leagally marry and I still wouldn't do it.
