I have a cat and for some reason my clothes stink like coconuts and urine- even after I wash them. Does this happen to anyone else? I take the cat to get groomed monthly and he smells fine but he is stinking up my clothes and house. Any ideas?

Yup - he's probably spraying. First answer is right, get him neutered if he's not neutered. If he is fixed take him to the vet to make sure he doesn't have a urinary tract infection or something. If he's healthy, make sure you clean the litterbox everyday - some cats are picky about their litterboxes - maybe try different kinds of litter, he may not like the kind your using - if you switched brands switch back. Clean areas in your house that he has sprayed with cleaner specially made for pet stains (nature's miracle) - if you clean with any basic cleaner it still leaves behind a scent that your cat can smell and may be causing him to go back - some may be safe for your clothes too - check the bottle. Don't leave clothes and blankets on the floor for him to go to the bathroom on. He may be stressed out, has there been any changes to his environment? (renovation - moved furniture - new pet etc?) Cats are very sensitive to their environment and any changes can stress them and cause them to spray. There is a product called 'Feliway' that helps cats with stress. If none of those does it for you -ask your vet if they think it may be emotional - in which you would need a 'kitty psychiatrist' which may prescribe some sort of medication to help.

Stop leaving your clothing laying around all over the floor, and use a hamper?

I think the cat is spraying, or urinating on them -- he could have a bladder or kidney infection (common) or could have a behavioral problem.

If the animal is not altered, have it done... i hope you get some helpful answers here. It's tough to get cats to stop this behavior once they have started.

If he is spraying everything that could be why your clothes smell of urine. Take him to the vet to see if he has any medical problems and get him neutered.
