most of the time... yes
maybe in one in a million the guy really doesn't exactly know what to do with his life at the moment (school, job, etc) and really want some time off from dating, to really make a good decision on life.

I'd say so. Ever heard that song "Need a little time" its about a bloke asking his wife for some time and space so he can have fun on his own. When he done his thing, he realises he wants to go back but by that time she's moved on. Good enough for him. Let him have his space, but you have yours too and see where you are in say three months. He'll soon realise he had steak at home but will have to settle for a burger instead. Good luck.

Yes, he either doesn't want to hurt your feelings or he wants to not be with you anymore and by him saying he needs some time he expects you not to date anyone else...because if you do, he'll get mad and say "we were only on a brake" ...that's his way of still having control over you!!
Don't fall for it....
Needing some time apart=Breaking up

Not really but you are on probation... Look out for other girls but don't ever get paranoid, maybe he jus need sometime to rethink about his relationship with you, a responsible guy who won't say "hey i never thought of this problem before and i don't know what to do with it so lets break up", if he stays with you, you are one lucky girl .

Maybe he doesn't want to deliver the blow yet & tries to help you to be prepared so the break-up may be easier for you to handle.
Maybe what he says is the literal truth: he needs some time to find out what he wants.
Use the time for yourself to find out what you want and tell him ...

You should've had him to be more specific about needing some time because usually that's a sign of a break-up.

Well, it certainly can mean that. It depends on the guy. But in general, yes, I'd say he's either breaking up with you or getting ready to.

It doesnt neccesarily mean that he wants to break up but i would prepare for the worst because he might need some distance and see why he wants it.

Yes, but you should ask him for some clarification. Say "Does this mean I am back on the market?" or something like that. Make it lighthearted so that you can laugh it off either way. Don't let him see you upset!
