Since you mention that she's been promoting the "Go Green" slogan, I would think that a beautification project would be the best fit for her interests. If you're not familiar with local organizations, you can contact Keep America Beautiful for information on opportunities in your area:

These organizations host litter pick-ups, tree plantings and other projects that would provide great opportunities for your daughter to volunteer. Our local chapter hosts several annual educational events - perhaps your daughter could be trained to also participate in these events by hosting an educational station, if something is happening in the area.

In our community, there's also a youth branch of Keep America Beautiful - the students learn leadership skills and participate in projects such as organizing recycling drives at their schools. Our youth organization actually teamed with a paper plant in a nearby town to pick up paper and started a new recycling program for the entire community. And there are youth conferences at the national level where organizations that make a major impact on their communities are recognized and youth with similar interests can come together, present information on what they've organized in their community and learn new ways to help.

If your daughter is really serious about helping she should probably start off at her school. Her peers will probably be willing to help and she probably wouldn't be taken seriously in the community at her age. I would talk to her principal and see if you can't set up a food drive or see if there are any kids suffering from cancer, Cystic Fibrosis, downs syndrome, etc (Don't ask for names, they're not allowed to tell you). If there are you could see if you could sponsor a Hat Week (have your daughter do the work). All you would need for a Hat week are some manilla envelopes (one per teacher for collection of $), two willing participants (2 teachers, principals that the kids would want to throw a pie at). Have the school announce it/send flyers home about the kids paying $.50 to wear a hat everyday (for a week) then the top two classes get to choose a student to pie the teacher/principal in the face. Donate the money raised between 1 or more charities. Good luck!!!!

It depends on where you live, Are you in a large city where there are places she can go to volunteer? If not she can start a neighborhood "getting green" where she can ask neighbors to place recycled goods out maybe once a week and she can go after school to gather all the stuff and take it to the recycling center herself. That way she can help her community. Since she is so young you will be doing the driving to the recycling centers but maybe this will bring you closer together, since you may be working together.

She could try contacting her local council asking if they run any volunteer projects for young people, also local charities are likely to want help! Try small ones that just deal with the local area rather than bigger charities as they are more likely to have areas she can help in like fundraising and promoting. I think writing letters is the best option and she should mention that she has already been doing that too! Good Luck To Her !

take her to places that actually need volunteers, nursing homes, hospitals (candy stripers) a great thing for a younger girl, if you want her to realize what she has take her to a soup kitchen, i worked there once, from a upper middle class town and wow did it affect me. Above the soup kitchen was a low class child care services, all these kids were deprived of just about everything. I recommend any of the above.

Eleven is kind of young....maybe the girl scouts would be best for someone her age...Or if she has talent, she could be a twirling coach, help out the baseball or football teams with scorekeeping or whatever......Why doesn't she talk to a teacher in your community for suggestions.

Volunteer at your nearest soup kitchen or food pantry. Organize some sort of charity drive at her school, if they allow it. Kids that want to help out are few and far between these days, good for her.

Always take note of her interests. I tell my children to volunteer in the areas that you like or have an interest. That way you are learning and giving.
