and you don't plan on going into the miltitary (I can't get in because of being on medication). I went through the whole process at the MEPS center to enlist in the Marine Corps, but in the end got denied because of the kind of medication I was on. And I can't be off of it for a whole year, let alone a week, which would get me in. Thanks.

You can work as a civilian employee for the DoD, even with certain medicines/limiting physical situations. However, you will not be a troop and you will be non-deployable, though you can take overseas assignments

Technically yes you can, but you have to realize that as part of the hiring process Veterans receive a 5 to 10 point advantage...according to the hiring practices a disabled Veteran should be hired before anyone else...doesn't always happen, but for the majority of the time it does...because many jobs with the DOD are just Civilian versions of Military Jobs and ask for specific skills that one who has not served in the Military may not, and probably will not get in the regular Civilian sector....I got my DOD/DA (Department of the Army) Civilian job because of my Military experience and that I am a 10 point Disabled Veteran...my job decription was very specialized and it would have been very hard for someone "off the street" to get...the jobs that I write for my employees are the same way...this is becasue a Veteran knows how the system works and I do not have to train them as much...I know during the Hiring Boards I have been on, I will chose a Veteran 100% of the time over someone "off the street"...and the way we write many jobs you have to be a Veteran just to be able to apply...there are some jobs out there that they open to the public, (mainly Doctors, Nurses, and others with Higher Levels of Education) but not as many that are open to DOD employees and Veterans...all Branches of the Government are the same...I found a job on USAJOBS.COM with the Department of Justice/DEA in Bogota, Colombia that I would apply for in a heart beat, and I am qualified for the job, but it is only open for DEA employee...and that job has been open for over a year...but in general even being a Veteran it is all in who you know...hope this helps...

Yes. The current Secretary of Defense has no military experience. Most of my civilian staff at the Oakland Navy Hospital years ago had no military experience.

Yes - I work for the DoD... I was prior military, but there are many people that work where I work that were not.

You would need to get a clearance though. The military is the easiest way to get one, but you can still get one without serving.
