According to Judaism, being Jewish is determined by the religion of the mother, not "David" or any other male. So, if David married a gentile, his ancestors would not be Jewish.

Insofar as the "prophecies" are in Jewish scripture, and that the role of the messiah would be to liberate the Jews, it would be assumed that he would be Jewish. At least they don't say that the messiah would be born of a gentile. (Note: Cyrus of Persia is referred to as "messiah" in the scriptures but that is because he conquered the Babylonians and made if possible for Jews to return to their homeland from captivity. There were plenty more Biblical opportunities for liberation later.)

The closest that the Bible comes to predicting the actual birth is the Isaiah 7:14 passage that says "the young woman (or "virgin", depending on translation) shall become pregnant and bear a child and call him Emmanuel," but this immediately referred to the birth of King Hezekiah by the wife of King Ahaz of Judah. The Christian interpretation is not accepted by Jews.

The only "Jesus" mentioned in Jewish scriptures is Joshua, the successor of Moses. So, wrong name, wrong significance, UNLESS one uses the Christian interpretation.

Isaiah 7:14-15 (NIV) Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin* (*Hebrew "alma" young maid) will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel. He will eat curds and honey when he knows enough to reject the wrong and choose the right.

So Jesus was supposed to be born a little devil himself! He had to learn obedience to do good and reject evil...

Since God had chosen the Jewish people to reveal himself and his laws and eventually his salvation for man, I doubt he'd ask someone who's Chinese, Arab, Black, Eskimo or what have you to bring his son into the world.

Bible prophesies are about as accurate as Nostradamus prophesies if you believe in either of them. Zealous enthusiasts interpret wide meanings to fit their hopes any way they can.

Some believe the prophecy has not been fulfilled yet.

Me, I discount 99.9% of that book.

Well, he had to have the blood of David in him, so how else could that happen?
