depends on the region. I've heard Hola a lot.. but my bolivian friends would say something that sounded like 'alo pretty often as well.

If I don't know who is calling, I say "¿sí?" (yes) or "dígame". This is what most people say in Spain.
If I know who's calling I say "hola" (hello)
If I'm at work I say "buenos días - buenas tardes" (good morning - afternoon)

depends on the country. in mexico they say "beuno". in others such as colombia they will say halo.
