I'm not entirely sure that I agree with George Lucas' portrayal of the Force. He puts such an emphasis on the Sith and Jedi but are these not both extremes of the Force? How can the Force be in balance when you've got two extremes and rather than a middle path?

Accurate?

Not sure how you could question his "accuracy" of a concept that he created.

But, you can achieve a balance by developing equally-weighed extremes.

ADD: Plus, I don't see where there is a middle ground to have. The Jedi's focus was on others, outside of themselves. The Sith focused on themselves. There is no middle ground there, it is a binary choice.

The closest thing to a mddle ground would be to do nothing, to have such a passive stance that you disdain to act in any case.

Yes they are extremes, but it's like two armies. The Jedi were to protect the values of the Force and the Sith wanted to exploit it. Both sides that used it were "gifted" in the sense, as you could see that the Jedi had a training facility for the exceptional children, and how Obi Wan told Yoda of Anakin's special abilities and how he'd be an asset to the Jedi. We are lead to believe that everyone has different levels of ability to use the Force, Lucas just highlighted the Sith and Jedi for a classic protagonist vs. antagonist storyline.

I think he was doing fine until he introduced the "M" word.

Robert: Midichlorians, or however you spell it. Biological organisms that are responsible for force powers. Seemed much better to think of the Force as emanating from your spirit rather than as a result of a symbiotic relationship with some life forms never heard of before episode 1 of SW.

I agree. But Lucas, you see, is a heretic. Its a shame no one will make a movie representing what REALLY happened a long time ago in a galaxy far far away.

Not an unreasonable question. It's impossible to have "balance" if you have ONLY extremes. That's the problem with dualism...it quickly becomes polarized.

Ya the two extremes, they balance each other, like light and dark. If they were in the middle they wouldnt balace as well. Whats the question?

Ob said that the Force surrounds and penetrates everything in the universe, and It binds the galaxy together. Paul said "in Him we move and have our being" They're pretty close.
