Before you make a decision you will regret. I was in the NAVY and I was a female on board the Dwight. D. Eisenhower. CVN 69. the requiters in any branch have quotas to fulfill so they will promise you anything and it means nothing unless you get it in writing. My experience was not a good one. You are underpaid, overworked, and as a female in a male dominated workforce often sexually harassed.
Get a scholarship to a college instead..a Pell Grant Student Loan. Graduate with a four year degree and you can go to Officer Candidates School if your heart is still on the military.
Then at least you can get an officer's salary. The Army and The Marines will teach you about ammunition, urban combat, weapons, chemical weapons....if you want to go to Iraq trust and believe you will go..right into a civil war! Just remember the death and killings and shooting people with a fifty cal. machine gun is much different in REAL life than on your X-Box. Either way if you go in the NAVY you won't see to much of Iraq...just the ocean. Unless you are a SEAL and I doubt that godsgirl will happen to you. I also doubt as a female you would make it through Paris Island. I am not sexist it's true very rarely will you see a female Marine Also whatever job you get depends on an ASVAB score...if you don't score high on this test you will be mopping floors for four years or if in Iraq mopping your friends guts and blood out of the Humvees.

You've got the word "SUCKER" tattooed across your forehead.
Don't even think about it until you're at least 21 years old and you are streetwise enough to understand the pitfalls.
I think the airforce is is a better choice, but whichever you choose (and there are a million other careers outside of the armed forces you should be thinking about) go into the technical side; it might not sound very exciting being a driver or a mechanic or a radio engineer, but that's where the GOOD jobs are; you want a job that has career prospects and qualifications that will be relevant when you go back to civilian life.

17 with a HS diploma and parent's permission. Otherwise 18. It is especially difficult to get into the Air Force at this time. You would need to score very well on the ASVAB, and if you have a GED, forget it, they will not take you without college credits to go along with it.
there are no 2 year enlistments. minimum is three years Active Duty, with ALL commitments being a total of eight years.
You WILL deploy, period. doesn't matter which branch you join, doesn't matter which job you get. you WILL deploy. It may or may not be to Iraq. Could be Afghanistan. Could be Africa. Could be Korea.

If you haven't done the research than why are you even considering it? Because of commercials? Go on the airforces website and get some information so you can truly know what it's about. And, they can send you to Iraq after basic training if they want. We're in the middle of a war and they'll send anyone they want unfortunately. And you have to be 18.

1st, It's spelled MILITARY
2nd, It's spelled IRAQ
Now, back to your question.
To join the military the age is 17 years with parents consent.
That's for any branch. Also, when you join. you are not guaranteed you will not deploy. When I went to my First active duty unit, I had three months then we deployed. I'm still on my deployment and have 2 months left. We already got word on when were going to deploy again. Its gives up less than a year with our loved ones, then were back in country again. Just because your in for two years , that doesn't mean you wont deploy. If your contract is up while your on a deployment. You will get stopped loss.

You can do research at www.military.com or the branch websites such as www.goarmy.com.
You can join when 17 if your parents sign if not 18.
You learn discipline, respect, first aid, weapons, etc. to many to list.
You always have a possibility to deploy regardless of how much time you have.
You will have to take the ASVAB test first and see what kind of jobs you qualify for.
Good luck to you.

17 with parental signatures. You can go into many different courses. You should contact a recruiter, just don't sign any papers until your positive you want to go into the military.
