I just bought an HDTV with digital cable. My vcr/dvd player is about 2 years old. I cannot play tapes/dvds on it with the HDTV. Could it be because my vcr is analog?? Do I need to buy a new vcr/dvd?? Thanks.

It must be your hook up. Give model numbers and we can see what is going on. it is not a problem of compatibility.

I don't think there is an HDTV out there that does not have backward compatibility, at least not commercially. Meaning it should be able to play any VCR, DVD, video game, satellite, cable...ANYTHING.

Make sure you select the correct input and stuff. And since you also mentioned it won't play DVD, which is always digital (Digital Video Disc), I know that you just didn't do something right. It could be a connection, a setting. Check or ask someone near you to check your setup.

Unless you use an HDMI cable for your TV, excluding the digital tuner, all other sources to the TV ARE analog.

If your vcr/dvd player works with your OLD TV, then it is probably a simple connection problem or a bad cable.

Make sure the connections are tight and of course on the TV you need to select the appropriate "input" or "source".
