Not as much, anymore

We did have the school-led prayers.

We still have the oaths taken over the Bible (swearing into office, witnesses in courts, etc). Blue laws, restricting commerce on Sundays.

I think the question is highly dependent upon where a person lives but for the most part as an atheist I feel no "oppression" for my lack of theistic belief. At the personal level I don't get any but on the more general level of society at a whole we see it. Perhaps this has more to do with forceful personality but even when I spend time out in rural eastern Europe no one gave me S about it. At the macro level for instance, songs like God Bless America would be more fitting if we replace God with Warner Von Braun. The fact that no politician can get elected saying he or she is an atheist despite the fact that atheists make up easily 10-20% of the USA.

Thankfully, not as much today.Recently, the US was made the world laughing stock with several attempts to teach ID as science.10 commandments had to come down. The creation museum is an embarrassment. There is still noise over prayer in school.Whether these things are forced on me today is credited to atheists, who challenge the Christians.Make no mistake,if atheists didn't oppose Christians at every turn,if we just "let you be"Christians would soon make atheism a behead-able offense, our children would be taught the Earth is 6,000 years old.Because Christians failed in their attempts, does not mean we should let our guard down.It isn't forced on me,not because you are so mellow and willing to live and let live.It isn't forced on me because, thanks to people like me,we won't let you force it,not because you wouldn't love to force it,you have tried repeatedly

Perhaps you've heard of 9/11 and that little holy war that we are in right now? President Bush thinks "god" is on his side. How about abortion, gay marriage, trying to remove science from classrooms and replace it with superstition? And it's not just about me or just in America. There are countrys where they slice women's genitals off for faith, or stone you to death for getting raped. Not to mention the harm that overpopulation is doing to the planet because people are so "fruitful". I can go on, but if you don't get the picture by now...

An evil group of men used Christian religion to get elected to the highest positions in America.

- The "religious right"'s attempts to control my life through unconstitutional laws.

- The fact that I have to seriously think about whether or not I want to tell someone that I'm an atheist.

- The fact that my country is at war for no reason other than the fact that "god told" the president to do it.

- The fact that if I were gay (I'm not but it still ticks me off) I would not have the same rights as everyone else in this country because of what some religious wack-jobs think about my sexual orientation.

Our money says "In god we trust"
Our pledge says "under god"

Neither are true.

Ppl knock on our doors, ppl ask the "have you ..." question at the gas stations & stores.
Gay ppl are not allowed to marry, (only because of religious influence on our government). (I'm not gay, but this issue bugs me, because I am not a bigot.)
The president claims to know what "god" wants.

Oh and our tax dollars support some religious programs.
Did you know that they can kick out a boy-scout for being an atheist?

Religion is the leading motivation for all sorts of hippocrisy. It's why gay's cant get married, it's why we're constantly at war and it's why we're stuck with the worst president in history in the white house right now.

Well, I do go to a Catholic college, so.... I mean, yeah, that was my own doing, but there's prayers before everything and apologetics is rampant in the science courses here.

My dad is another source for forced religion.
